Thanks fella's. What's happening is the family matriarch is about to pass. Relatives will be arriving and I had to clear everything out of the living room where I have been assembling the model. Don't know if it will be a week or six.

I ordered the Microsens glow system today for my ASP 400 radial engine. That should be the last item needed to finish my CMP Zero powered by the ASP 400 radial. I will post pictures when the exhaust and glow system arrive and I resume work on the plane.

How well does your engine fit in the cowl ?

I have seen pictures of it fitting fine, but on my own, I had to widen the cowl to fit the engine.
Even now, I think it will rub slightly, as the tolorence is very small. Will see how it turns out.

My cowl may also have to be widened it is very tight and touches the cowl. Great pictures SJN, thanks for sharing. How long are the standoffs that you used to mount the engine?

Really nice job, SJN.

Are you running any offsets on the motor (right prop, down prop etc.) or is it setup dead-square?

Dead square. No room for side thrust.
Rudder and throttle management will be needed during take-off

Ok - thanks

Just another Q, if I may - where is the best location for the height of the fuel tank?

As in, whereabouts are you running your fuel outlet pipe in relation to the input barb on the carburettor? i.e. is the pipe where the fuel comes out of the fuel tank higher, lower, or level to the input pipe?

Or do you go by where the 'clunk' sits in the fuel tank?

I have my tank such that the centerline of the tank is about 10mm above the center of the carb. This is because my engine really has poor suction on startup and gravity can assist in these matters! when in flight i have no issues with the tank position

When the snow melts, and my fingers stop freezing
Still need to do a few things to the zero to get it finished. Just strengthened the retact bays, and installed the landing gear.
Im not too sure if it will hold on this heavy plane....will see how it goes.

Also have to find an inspecter jo get it approved, as it is over the 7kg weight limit.

Saw this video of another cmpro Zero.
It sure seems to fly well with a 22x10 prop.
I wonder what fuel he is useing.
I thought the 20/8 was a good prop ?

I purchased a 20 x 10 Xoar prop for my engine but I have not run it yet. I may also have to change to a 20 x 8 but we will see when I get to the engine break in runs.

SJN, is that high noon in Norway?

We have a club member here in Florida who resides in Aasen, Norway. He's here for an extended period of time, so he joined our club and spends his days at our field.

SJN,

depends on the prop make. I find the 20x10 APC is THE best Prop for my altitude. With 7050 rpm the 400 turns this prop really well.

I had that zeros small sister some years ago.. loved that plane. Good match for my FT-160..

I have found the 21x8 menz @ 6600 rpm works well on the 400. the problem is there are so many props and so many models getting a good combo is not always easy!

Thanks Carosel.

I notice that you talk 'centreline' to 'centreline' and not height of outlet pipe/clunk v's height of inlet tube at the carburettor - I'm trying to get my head around where the optimum position of the fueltank is in relation to the motor so that it doesn't syphon (flood) or go to the other extreme of starving (running too lean/not at all).

Well...now I'm really pissed-off.

It seems I can't get the Bird I want for this engine for love or money.

Emailed TowerHobbies almost a fortnight ago re their 85" FW190. Twice - to both their 'International' and 'local' email addys'. Nada. Haven't heard a single thing back.

So I tried a local TF supplier over a week ago. They took down all my details, phone number etc. Nada. Haven't heard a single thing back.

So then I decided to take a punt hoping that an ESM LA-7 80" would have a cowl area big enough for the motor - tried 'local'. Nup, no stock till June/July 2013. Tried a place in the US - "Nup, can't sell you one as there is a Dealer in Oz". Tried another online place in the US - yep. Accepted all my details, including that I am from AUS + postage etc. Paid for it last Saturday. Today I get a "Paypal refund" - we can't ship to your Country.

And they wonder why the World is buying more and more stuff from places like HobbyKing... :

BJ64, i have the ESM La7 myself and its a great plane to fly. I am using a laser 300v and the thing is unlimited in its performance (see video (yes i know i posted the video before )) I did try and fit the 400 to mine when i got it but the cowl is very very tight. ie its more or less an interferance fit on the rocker covers. if you took them off it will go but it might make more or a mess inside the cowling. There is also the new esm sea fury to look at or, if you dont mind waiting a few months, there is a new A6m Zero comming from esm that should be perfect for the 400 (see link again)

That's a sweet vid, Carosel

Man, that thing flies nice - and has those classic WarBird lines.

Down here, it seems to be more a case of 'IF' rather then 'what' - it's not so easy to get the great choices available elsewhere. Or at least so it has seemed in my last six or seven attempts.

And if you can eventually get it, they cut you a new one on the price.

Ok, so I haven't exhausted all my possibilities yet - but I'm not holding my breath.

Unfortunately, some things RC are a very niche market in Aus - you have to get down on your hands and knees, then be prepared to take one for the team to get what you want. There's always this constant talk of no-one supporting their local outlets - but how the hell can you? The stock jack-sh*t, then ask an arm and a leg for what you can eventually get. Seriously, I'd buy 5 TF 190's and 5 ESM LA-7's today, if I could, and become a 'Dealer' to sell them basically at cost just so that we can get a few of these things down here for our locals to enjoy.

Who would have thought that buying a 'toy plane' would be so difficult in this day and age of "internet-everything" ??

BJ

Its the same here with ESM.

I can not order them from the shop I want to buy from.
Exsample : http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=81137&language=en
See the red rolling text, it reads in english at the end of it.......

I have to buy it from the local dealers, or ESM in china will stop selleng the Austrian shop above.
The local dealers here take 33% more for the same kit, than the link above........that realy makes me angry

All other brands of stuff is ok to order..... just not ESM.
