Hi there everyone, I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me, I have recently bought a Tyco GSXR 1000, I have pulled it apart to upgrade it and I have found it uses two motors, one 540 motor for 1st gear and a tiny little 370 motor for second gear. I have got a LRP NEO Star 3 brushless motor to go in it with a ESC to go with it. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could lock the tranny in second gear or modify the tranny in some way so I can just run the one brushless motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About two years ago I bought one of these and tore it apart.
I put in a hobby grade steering servo (s3305 futaba) and gave it the ricky bike style steering system.
I then found that the gear ratio was about 5or6 to one so even when I put in a better motor (16 dbl) there was no speed)
I found that by removing and swapping around the tranny gears I found a 1.5to1 and the single motor rocks!!
Now pull off those silly anti tip wheels and cut the bracket down attach piano wire in a loop and you have more lean angle
Now this thing rocks.
You know I do have a bushless laying around and another gsx on display maybe I will make another this winter with pics.

Thanks for the reply, I have pulled the tranny apart but I cant seem to get the gears to match by swapping them around any tips there? With that steering setup, did you buy a steering linkage kit of some sort and just drill little holes in the forks to connect it to? Also what sort of radio setup did you use? Did you put in a ESC or just use a basic receiver? I have a 6 turn brushed motor here ready to go in mine.

Dude I promise soon I will have some time to take pics of what I have done with the gears and steering.
As to the 6t motor you will HAVE to put in a different ESC. This motor would not be a good choice when you
change the gear ratio (no torque) what happened to the bushless?
So please bear with me it will be worth the wait.

Heres a picture of the tranny I have apart at the moment. I have numbered the gears to make it easier to explain to me if you can. I have had it apart over 100 times now and cant get any other ratios to work.

Thanks a lot for the pics dave, I was wondering if you might be able to try to explain a little how you got the tranny to work with the gears swapped around. or maybe dismantle the tranny a bit and do some build up pics, to help me out a little. sorry to sound like a nuisnace mate, but im a bit of a novice.

Just start by pulling out the gears.
notice that there is a gear the same dia. as the center white behind the center white. find this and install first.
now install motor drive gear on the left, next white gear in the center, and blue gear on the right.
attach locking collar (from hardware store just above gear so that gear turns freely) and pull out upper unsed pin.
there you go. PS. I could not see your numbers on the gears.

How do u get the two middle gears to work together to spin the last blue gear, they are two separate gears, did u glue them together or is that what u used the locking coller for?

glue and pin. The collar is just to keep from floating to much.

Thanks, for that I have the tranny sorted out now, Im just working on the steering, Im going to make up my own steering system using a Traxxas T-maxx 3.3 2018 servo & Traxxas revo 3.3 steering arm set, Im just gunna drill a couple of small holes in the forks to connect the steering arms to should work ok. I cant find my brushless motor I had for it anywhere, i think I might of sold it. So Im in the process of looking around for a new brushless motor and esc to go in it. You wouldnt have any spare that you might wanna sell do you? Once I get this steering set-up done Ill post some pics for you. What do you think about getting a Robinson Racing Pinion gear for the motor and maybe step up a few teeth? Have you had your bike going yet? Does it goes quick?

regards Greg

Slow down son;First off you can not use direct steering you have to put some sort of spring set up
inbetween the forks and the servo this is a must.
second the size of pinion you can use is limited because the is no adjustment on the motor to the gear case.I am using a 13t on my 19t motor; this seems to be a good combo. So heed my advice
and good luck.

Take the two tierods out and replace them with springs and you will have a very good steering system.
Nice find, but it will not work like he had it. Good luck and have fun building.
