Celebrities into R/C?
Just out of plain curiousity, I sometimes wonder if any celebrities (movie/tv stars, pro athletes, race car drivers, or even politicians) are inlvolved in r/c at all. The obvious answer is yes and obviously some are, but I wonder how many? They have the means to buy any plane, car, boat, etc that they want so why wouldn't they? I am not that interested in celebrities (actually get sick of hearing about it), however I think it would be neat if I heard that someone like Tom Brady or Dale Earnhardt Jr. (just for examples) builds or flies r/c planes. I wonder if any of these guys are actually on rcuniverse (In a disguised manner) chatting about them?
Just curious about everyones thoughts or stories!

I remember when I was 3 or 4 being dressed in my favorite cowboy boots and hat and singing a Roy Orbison song. Ha Ha, for some reason I loved his voice!

He also had an amazing life full of everything including a lot of tragedy.

Pretty interesting link, but outdated somewhat. I wonder if Michael Waltrip got the rc bug that day?

RE: Celebrities into R/C?
Looks like theres a correlation between r/c flying and race car drivers???
I went throught the Richard Petty driving experience at Bristol Motor Speedway, what a rush. I still think I get a bigger rush watching a new plane take off for the first time though. Thats a much safer way to get your thrills versus driving at 200mph (or 300mph for Eddie Hill!).

Here's a pic of former Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna flying a pattern plane. I found this in another thread. The trend continues huh?

RE: Celebrities into R/C?
I was asked to make this post:
If you want to talk celebrities in R/C you need to start with Reginald Denny. He was a big time actor in Hollywood who was into modeling. He opened a hobby shop in LA, was a Defense Contractor making the first R/C target drones for the Army, etc. As an aside, Marilyn Monroe worked in his factory and was discovered there when the Army wanted Denny to shoot a promotional film in the plant. There are pictures of him flying R/C with Mickey Rooney, Wallace Beery and other actors of the time.
Other celebs who were into R/C are / were:
- Justin Wilson who was the Cajun Chef on the TV many years ago;
- Pernell Roberts from the Bonanza TV show;
- Elvis Stojko, Olympic ice skating star;
- Carl Edwards who is on the NASCAR circuit now.
I am sure that there are lots of others.

Frank Beard from ZZ Top. Cool band but I think he flies all electric so does that really count? I'm just kidding; don't anyone take offense!

A few years ago, I taught Marc Maddox formally of the Buffalo Bills, how to fly both RC airplanes and helicopters.
Next flying season we might be getting a local pro hockey coach interested in learning how to fly RC airplanes. Hopefully, he might bring several of his players out to our flying field.
A couple of years ago, I gave our local channel 4 TV news reporter, Rich Newberg and his family an RC flying lesson.
We have a standing offer to give any VIP, government official or any celebrity immediate RC flying experience, any day of the week. We always have an airplane trainer and helicopter ready to fly.
