Hey guys!
I am new to this drag racing style too. I am planning on building either a nitro rail car or a nitro funny car. I am waiting on my end-mill to come in so I can start working with some aluminum.
I would also like to know which size rear tire to use? 1/10 or 1/12?

JPILK.. Welcome to the 132ft club! What size wheel base are you looking to build? Funny cars are normally 13.5+'' which would be 1/10. Since you are building it yourself I would figure the parts you are going to need to buy first. I just built a funnycar and knew I would be buying wheels, tires, axles, hubs, wheelbar and even chassis brace so, I built it around the demensions of other proven cars... IE: 13.5'' wheelbase and made my car to fit the parts I was buying for it.

Have fun and enjoy

justinep,
I really don't know what size wheel base it will be. Everything will be scratch-built. The engine I am using is a SH .12 Pro.
I got 2 of them real cheap($30 each) new. So I will have a spare, or unless I make a twin engine monster!
I just ordered my bearings, spur gear and exhaust system last night. The rear axle will be a solid 1/4" aluminum rod. I am making the locking hub for the rear axle to fit the spur gear. I thought about using a diff. and drive shaft, but I want this as light and as cheap as I can get it or make it.
I will complete the rear end first and finish the front end next and then I will get a body and make the chassis. I won't be able to finish the rear axle(length) and front axles either untill I get a body also. But I will have a starting point.
I love working with metal and fabricating my own parts.
