Hi to all

I am wondering what rules your RC club uses for 1/12 racing.

We had a 27T-stock class for 3-4 months but one guy showed up 2 weeks ago with a 13.5SS brushless motor (sintered rotor) claiming it was 27T compatible and beat us all. I was known as Mr TQ and lost my title since ah ah ah ! I'm nowhere close to his speed.

I checked online and found these 13.5SS are more 19T compatible. The EX13.5 (bonded rotor) seems closer to a 27T motor. The 17.5 seems closely matched too. I often see 27T/17.5 and 27T/13.5(bonded rotor) classes on club forums.

What do you guys have?

Needless to say, I have a 13.5SS system in the mail now.

I'm surprised they let him run it. At my local track the 13.5SS is a 19 turn class motor.

Finally someone agrees with me ah ah ah ! I feel alone in my club. These SS13.5 guys say there are not faster even though it's SO obvious on the track.

I suspect they just want to keep winning and not loose the edge they have.... and their 250$ investment if they have to switch back to 27T motors

At our local track the 13.5 is in with the stock class and the 10.5 is in with the 19 turn class. I believe that the ROAR rules also allow them (though I believe they only call out the Novak systems). The brushed guys are actually faster here than the brushless but they are cranking the motors pretty hard to do it (> 160F motor temp at the end of an 8 minute heat).

Yep, sorry dude I was just up at my lhs which is also my local track and asked them. The 13.5 is stock class and 10.5 is 19t, sorry for the incorrect info. The good thing about my local track though is they made separate classes for the brushed and brushless motors.

Ditto. In May our local club passed rules allowing 13.5 in the Stock class. It destroyed the stock motors. In November we moved the 13.5 to the 19t class, and we've been very happy with how fair this is. A good, highly tuned 19t motor is definitely faster, but you have to do a lot of work and spend a lot of money to have that performance advantage.

Well thanks guys for the info. I'll pass along what you wrote to my fellow racers. Some brushless guys are happy with their speed so they don't want to stop winning. But soon enough, some 27T guys will start complaining. I'm the only one so far.

I'm pushing for a "pro-brushless" and a "stock-27T" class so that every one is happy. Since we have only 8 races total racing those 1/12 cars, I hope to get 2 groups of 4 on a regular basis.

I hate unfair advantages. Group inertia is difficult to change sometime... I hope it won't be that difficult this time.
