I have some brass inserts on order (6/32) for the fire wall mount. one of the blind nuts poped out the back of the firewall and i don't want to cut into the fuse to fix it. Do you guys glue them in???

I would not use those brass inserts in a plywood firewall. I used them once, never again. They will pull up tight to the back of the motor mount and then work loose in the hole, glued or not.

If you have the access may I suggest the following. Poke a piece of threaded rod through the hole in the firewall. Screw the blind nut to it. Pull the blind nut back into place. Put a washer and nut on the threaded rod and screw the blind nut into the back of the firewall. A touch of CA and it is there for good.

I would second Ed's comments. Re-seat the blind nut using a long threaded rod. For the next quickee you build, try applying some epoxy/carbon mixed filets to the 4 corners of your fire wall. This will not only add strength, but will keep those blind nuts encapsulated.

I can't say that I've every had an insert come loose but I alway coat them with some epoxy before screwing them in.. Seems to hold it for at least as long as the plane lives..

I've seen both blind nuts and brass inserts come lose. Personally, I find it much easier to install blind nuts straight than I do the brass inserts.

I have only tried the brass inserts once, installed with epoxy. They hold fine, but I had a devil of a time getting all four to line up with the holes in the square backplate mount, with the square backplate mount flush on all sides of the fuselage. The holes were drilled accurately, but the way the brass inserts are made with the coarse thread on the outside, they tend not to go in straight, or not to stay exactly on center. Once the groove is cut in the wood by the thread, you can't get the brass insert aligned better too easily. Personally, I am going back to using blind nuts on future projects, just because I find them easier to install accurately.
