Decided to order this 1/5 Rc car for me and my son to screw around with. Looks pretty decent for the price. $670 shipped to the door. Anyone have any idea of the top speed this car can run, and where to get tires and rims other then the stock ones. I figured for the price that's alot of spare parts compared to the FG sportline. We bought a HPI Baja last summer and couldn't be happier, that buggy has been very durable and a blast to run. I hope this Hobby Pro on road is of similar quality.

A friend of mine bought one, its not bad really. Its not quite up to the quality of the Baja or FG cars though.

sheograth,
I'm actually pretty curious to see it in person. For 650 bucks I really don't know what to expect. I spoke to VS-Model sports and they stated it was a real bargin for the price. Same radio as HPI Baja. Hobby Tron lists the engine as a zenoah 23cc but I think that it is probably a CY. Hey for parking lot donuts and fun time trials I sure it will be good enough. I think a few others bought them and liked them. I really only heard a few negatives about XRC.

Hobbytron will not have any left soon they did not pay for the first batch and they have no parts support. The Support is going ot come from VS or JHC. The car is good I have one LOCKTIGHT all the screws before running (yes a pain but do it first) change the pinion gear and have fun. DO not change the pinion gear and you will soon.

K-spindle,
Change the pinion gear to what metal? or different number of teeth. Where do you get a pinion gear other then the stock one? Thanks

Hey, I see you're in Wading River. I'm in Ridge. My son and I have 5th scale on-roads. We'll start running at the Ronkonkoma train station again as soon as spring comes around. We ran there every Sun this past season and a few guys had them. Johnnysplits is on this forum from time to time and he recently bought one. Good car, all FG replacement parts fit, and Karlton is right. The pinion is plastic and WILL strip. It's just a matter of time. We run on a track set up in the parking lot and believe it or not, they handle pretty well with a good set of tires. We have a thread here, but it's been pretty dead lately with it being winter and all. I'll post a link.

What color did you get? I like the GT-40 body, we need to get more american cars running at the train station. Everything is either Mercedez or BMW! And it's great that you're doing this with your son. My little guy was with me every Sunday I went. It's great, he's my little racing buddy!

Brimac09,
I used to have nitro's a long time ago. My son is also my little buddy but he is 16 years old 189lb 5' 11" tall and solid muscle. He wrestles Varsity for SWR. I thought this would be good stress relief for both of us. We mountain bike together through the RCA trails in Ridge and work out in the gym 4-5 days a week to keep in shape for wrestling. I bought the red one from Hobbytron for 670.00 shipped. I then called VS model sports and ordered an extra blue body and metal pinion gear from them. Bob the owner of VS is a very nice guy and told me the GT40 is a very good entry level car, pretty much on line with the FG sportline and almost all the parts are interchangable. In fact the metal pinion gear I ordered is the FG one. I have a competitin FG on road in my basement but I never actually ran it. My son says its to nice to use. This GT40 car will be a good start for him and he looks foward to running it in a group.

First time post...

My Girlfriend bought me this car for Christmas...Thanks babes. I have had a blast with the car to say the least. The problem I have found is that I have not been able to get the car to hook up. I'm assumming it's the tires, they must be a hard compound. Does anybody know where to get a better set of tires? Also, is there a huge difference between the Zonah motor and the CY motor? Any input would be appreciated!!

I do not have the part number on the FG pinion I put on just asked VS at the track and he handed me one. Tires contact ANY of the large scale importers.

Now to get her to "hook up"
#1 the shock springs are way to long so the car rides too high. Options cut 2.5 coils off the springs or run FG / HARM springs. Get her down to 8mm / 10mm ride height
#2 do a normal set up 1.5 degrees tow out in the front and 2 IN on the rear.
#3 tires the stock tires are nto bad the rims flex too much though so GRP A all around and call it good for parking lot bashing.

Hey mstalli, I have the same car. The tires are garbage. Get tires from GRP for the FG onroad. Ive actually been trying to make a wheel driver to replace the square thats on there so I can run wheels from HPI. They are much less expensive and are very soft.....which this car needs. That car comes with the CY engine. So far so good for me. I really dont know why people bash it. We shall see once I can get this thing to hook up how it drives compared to the real FG's with zenoah's. Im happy so far with it considering it was only $620 !!!! The only major problem in the radio equipment. Before this racing season starts, it's gonna be replaced with a futaba 3pks. I might even buy the 2wd buggy that hobbypro makes just to see. Same price as the Ford GT, im sure parts from the FG buggy will fit if needed. We'll see. Im getting married in october so I have to watch the spending. Buuuuut I thinks I can sneak a few here and there!! LOL
