I know that I've seen something on using rigid foam for a parting board.. I searched a little but couldn't find anything.. I thought it was Ed Smith that mentioned it.

The reason I ask is that I was looking at this scrap sheet of pink foam in the loading dock at work and I thought, "why couldn't I use that for a parting board?" It sure would be a lot easier to cut and then just cover it with some Econocoat or something like that..

Any thoughts?

I've never tried it, but it would probably work. I've monokoted simple sanded wood shapes, and used the waxed monokote surface as a parting plane and it worked well.

The only thing I'd think could be a problem is if the foamboard gets warm, and starts warping (due to the resin exotherming during cure, or due to heat being applied to control/quicken cure time).
