NCIS,

You don't really need to form the sheet around anything but the fuse itself. I used double sided foam tape to stick it down with first. Apply the tape to the aluminum sheet keeping it back from the edges about 3/16" of an inch. After it was in place, I cinched it down with screws.

The sheet aluminum is thin, but it has a lot of "spring" in it. The tape is a good third hand.

I made a cardboard template and then cut my aluminum to match the template. Then epoxyied them into location. I found that it worked out very well.

I tried those wheels after my under carriage was completed. I found them to wide for the brass axle. I think If you went with the Williams brothers wheel, they may fit better. I know that the WB wheels are flat on one side, and they should fit. I went with the standard wheels that came with the kit, and they worked out ok. Does anyone know how wide these WB wheels are at the axle? May need to purchase these if the fit is good.

Craig

Thanks for the help,

Craig they don't supply wheels with the kit anymore. I can't even find Williams Brothers to look at their wheels. Maybe someone could steer me in the right direction for getting the wheels. I ordered the pilot from AH Design out of Whales, England. It was only $62.00 with shipping included. Hand made and painted. I though that was a fair deal.

Question???

Is there room for the spring starter and bell mount on the Pup? I am about to order them and want to be sure first. Did you guys use the throttle and choke set up that comes with the G-62 or did you get an after market linkage?

I have a spring starter on mine . I never use a bell housing , i put a piece of 3/16 thick alum; plate with 4 outer holes with rubber shock mounts , I use tube type spacers to get from back of the eng; to the plate . I used reg; crank arms [ like on a stearable nose gear used on a trike landing gear ] for the throttle arm on carb & same for the choke-- I use a servo on choke , take the small ball brg out of the choke butterfly so that the butterfly is loose , else the servo won't work

Hurri,

My e-mail address is ncis7959@sbcglobal.net Could you send me some pictures of your mounting and linckage set up. I don't understand by just reading it. I am kind of a picture kind of guy.

I finally got my Zenoah G-62 from Chief Aviation out of Oregon and am happy to see that they now provide you with a throttle linkage that will be easy to change. The choke has also been changed so that a pushrod will operate it. I have decided to have a friend that is an expert builder build it for me while I start on my 1/4 scale Don Smith F4U-1A Corsair. I only have about another month to go on the 1/8 scale Corsair and then after a short break I'll get on it. I'll post a build thread when I start.

Hello, hello, how is the build coming along. Very interested in your build of the 1/3 Pup. I just ordered one and I have two (Meister P-47, Kellogg TBM Avenger) in the que in front of it. Was wondering if anyone could suggest what radial might be appropriate for the Pup? Thanks. Chic

redtail,

I am starting a build of a 1/4 scale 120" wingspan F4U-1A Corsair from Don Smith's Plans. I am having a good friend and expert builder build the pup. I will post pictures soon. Him and I talked last night and he has the tail feathers done and the top wing center section. I haven't seen it yet but thought I might take a ride out thre tomorrow.

Good luck with your Pup!!!

redtail,

I just noticed that a friend was over yesterday and must have signed me out and then he signed in. The last post was really written by me and not TakingFlight96. I guess I will have to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Looks good so far! I've got this kit also..to many kits, not enough time to build them all. I'm looking forward to watching this thread.

My Pup is going on 20+ years old, 35lbs. Powered with a G 62 with a cup mount and spring starter, swings a Zinger 24-8. LOTS of power, comes off the ground in about 5 ft.
Lots of fun to fly in the wind, bounces around like a big old kite! I put a replacement cowl on mine(hit a cornfield!)) and it was very badly grooved, took it to a chrome plating shop and they buffed it up, got rid if a lot of the grooving, still noticable though.
Good luck with the project, you'll have fun with it, I like mine so much, I'm building a 1/2 scale!

Cheers, Dave.
