Mine has been done for a year with no problems and I know another guys who's had his for four years+ with no problems. The one to avoid is lustercoat(sp). That stuff cracks right quickly.I like rustoleum as well but getting the right colors is more of a challenge.

I've used Rustoleum and don't care for it. I'll be using a spray gun to prime and paint this one and wan't something that's also easy to clean up. Is the latex water base paint? I would like that.

My friend is almost done with my Pup. He is going to stain the area around the cockpit, the cabanes, the struts, landing gear, and the stick between the ailerons. Then put a few coats of clear varnish over that for a shiny appearence. After he lets all that dry he will cover it and then I get it and do the detailing and paint work. His friend Mel made a scale machine gun for it that looks very realistic. Thanks, Mel!!! all the wires are run and all that will be left is to fly it. I can't wait for this big bird. Here it is in skeleton form with my friend the builder standing with it. Fellow Pup lovers and builders, how does dhe look so far? Honest answers. If you see anything wrong let me know so I can tell my friend the expert builder. By the way I would of built this Pup but I'm building a 1/4 scale Don Smith F4U-1D Corsair that I'm modifying into the French Navy version. Both birds will fly French flags and I hope to havy them ready for the Top Gun Competition in 2010.

Gibbs, make sure to run cross brace wires on the outer wing struts(cross bracing). This does a lot to stop the wings moving forward and backward.
Keep an eye on the flying wires, they will stretch a little.Have fun, you'll really enjoy it.
Cheers, Dave.

Dave,

The instructions call for elastic on the outside struts. Did you use flying wire like the main wires you see on mine? It sure would make me feel more comfortable that way. Also I did more than just use the wires to hold the top and bottom wings on, I had Bill {my friend} put in hatches and then bolt the wings to the fuse for added safety. Did you do that also?

Hey there, can you take photos of the hatches you made to bolt the wings on? Many thanks, I'm starting my build very soon. Chic

The X-brace wires are the same as the flying wires. My wings just sit on a couple of dowel stubs, never had a wing come off...well one came off but that was when I hit a cornfield!

redtail,

Next time I go to my friends house I'll take some pictures of the hatches and how he did it. It might be a couple weeks before I get back over there but I won't forget.
