David,

I hope at this point you have made up your mind on a TREX. To address what Bry said earlier in the post, I am not down on E-Flight, I own one (CX2). I have seen the Blade 400 and the initial quality is lacking. Sure I have upgraded my TREX V2, I bought a carbon Fiber Tail for it, but that is it. TREX kits offer high quality parts, I really did not even need the tail. If you are just starting out with single rotor CCPM machine and are willing to spend the money on a Blade, why not throw a couple extra bucks at the project and buy something that has a proven support infrastructure. I would say that about any product, I just happen to have purchased a TREX. Good luck, and BTW the support for TREX on this site has been tremendous, so thanks to all those people who have answered my posts and helped me get off the ground.

Guys,

All this talk comparing a 400 heli to a 450 heli is just plain UNFAIR.

Of course the larger heli will win every time ....

If you want to compare, then compare a MX400 or a Falcon 3D SE or something similar in size.

I'm sorry, but just because the name is "Blade 400", doesn't mean that it is a smaller Heli than other Helis that are termed to be be "450" Helis.

I have seen the specs on the B400 and have had a chance to see and hold one up close and personal. The B400 is almost exactly the same size as a TREX, CopterX. HDX450, Mini Titan e325, etc... It can even use Align 325 mm woodies as replacement blades!

I have no idea on the specs of the MX400, but I do know that the Falcon 3D / HBK2 are smaller than those mentioned above.

Ergo, comparisons of the B400 to any of the above mentioned Helis are VERY valid.

If you look at the first post ,I had 2 ships before and I'm looking to get back into heli's. That said ,yes I am going to get the t-rex like it has been said it is a proven ship, my only problem now is when I first saw the B400 I was like cool I could get back in heli's for under $500 but the rex is close to $900 I could almost spend a couple of more bucks and get a 30-50 size nitro. I know this may be an odd question but if it is so close in price why go electric, is it the fact that you can fly around in the backyard or is the electric steps up the ladder, I don't think I want to go through all that nitro expense again, just a question. Thanks
David

Depends where you live, in some public parks "fuel engines" are forbidden. Except for noise, I really do not understand this concept. In my area there are many parks with trails, motorcycles are forbidden yet my son rides his electric motorcycle with no complaints at all. Same with helicopters, for some strange reason electric helis are acceptable when fuel engines are not allowed.

I preferred electric because of the noise factor. I will eventually invest in a gasser for photography, but for now I am just learning to fly. Batteries are a huge expense and they need to be be cared for, so I am not sure what the $$ difference is at the end of the day, but I like the fact that I do not have to worry about engine tuning or maintenance for now.

I couldnt afford the price for a trex so i got the Copter X SE. Its almost identicle to the trex 450 v2 but a 3rd of the price! Also all the trex parts will fit and it flyes the same as the trex.

Earlier today, before I read this thread, I canceled my Blade 400 order, but still had my doubts if I had done the right thing.
After reading this thread, all my second thoughts has disappeared.

My primary reason to go for the T-rex (500 b.t.w.) is total lack of available spare parts

Thank you guys, for making me sleep easier at night.

Peter

It's hard to resist the 400 when they dangle the DX-6i 'carrot' with it. That marketing strategy worked on the CX-2; but I still didn't buy the 400 as I wanted to go to the top and get the DX-7 and the T-REX.

I don't need to upgrade either; so I guess I saved Money.

I had been out of the hobby for a bit, and I wanted to go 2.4 (but not pay for a DX7) and also get a 400 size machine. The DX6i "carrot" worked just as you said, without that, I never would have even considered the blade 400, but I did, and Im glad, ill save my hardcore 3-D for my nitro helis.

I'm of the same opinion as many here, but I will share with you that I stopped by my LHS last weekend and talked to Steve about the B400. He said he got 8 of them in and they are all gone already. He has flown his (he kept one for himself) and says he really likes it.

Take that for what it's worth. He wasn't trying to sell one to me, that's for sure! #1, he didn't have any in stock, and (b) he knows that I already have a TREX.

L8R!

I'm going to agree with Bry on this, and just so you know Harry the 400 refers to the motor size, the physical size between all the 400's and 450's are negligible. The falcon 3D SE is actually 10mm LONGER than the trex 450 se v2.

Here are all the lengths:

Trex 450 se v2 660mm
Falcon 3D se 670mm
Blade 400 650mm
Helimax mx400 630mm

and just as an FYI, Esky is coming out with 2.4ghz radios as well, the Belt CP right now costs $200 so I bet if you add the new 2.4ghz radio it will be around $300 which will be $160 less than the blade 400.
