J-MICHAEL...You won't need to move up to SE you are already flying one, it just doesn't have all that bling.

my 2 cents worth,, moving up the ladder from cx to cp+, now i am looking to move to the next step I have accepted the cp+ for what it is and have used it to improve my learing skills. question, lets see how you would compare a trex xl to a 450sa or a blade 400 as a reasonable next step for a budget flyer. I'm not quite ready to put $1200 into a 450SE, I agree that trex makes a quality product compared eflite. but your are looking at a big price difference between a blade 400 and a full trex setup

If you plan to stay in the hobby, I think that a good radio is the best investment. Now what is a good radio is another controversial subject, but a 200$ -300$ system is more than enough if you buy right. Once you have that, you are not restricted to ARF machines. The radio that comes with the Blade 400 seems to be an OK unit according to the initial reports, so buying that machine could allow you to move up afterwards. My only gripe with E-Flite is the high cost VS low quality of their replacement parts. Because of that, I am certain that buying a T-Rex is more bang for your buck.

I have a T-Rex 450 SA. It is the "plastic" version and in my opinion, it flies really well. At least it is more than enough for my level now and also for the foreseeable future. I own a Blade CP Pro and I think that the quality of its plastic parts is really inferior to the quality of the T-Rex parts.

I also think that you don't have to have all the best servos and gyro if you are at my proficiency level and if you are on a budget, but again, in the long run, it maybe more cost effective to go that way.

If you don't have a good radio already, get the B400. If you get really good or like the hobby get a Trex and use the same radio to fly it. The DX6i is a good radio, i see no shortcomings from it. I fly my B400, Blade CP and Belt CP with my DX6i. The gyro programming on the DX6i is better than my DX7, IMHO. Getting the B400 doesnt set you back at all, in fact you can get parts easily. I have 3 local hobby shops and only one carry Trex parts. You wont need the best parts if you keep breaking them while learning... thats IMHO anyways.

Trex is a better machine no doubt.

and the battle goes on! based on my budget I do feel the blade 400 might be my best bet at this time. If I go the t-rex route it will be a couple of months before I can get everything I need to fly. but I can get the b400 and be in the air next week. then over time build a nice t-rex and use my radio from the b400

OMG I can't believe this thread is still alive.

Really..... align vs e-flite?

What a joke.

Do not stumble into the slick marketing , low quality e-flite trap.

You'll always hear pro's and con's to every bird. BUT, you don't hear many people at all talk bad about a TREX....there is a reason for that.

I know you want to fly now, but if you'll do a lot of searches on this and other forums, you'll see that you might not get as much flying as you want with the B400. You might be lucky and it flies right out of the box, but there are many GOOD pilots that said they could barely hover it right out of the box. So factor that into your decision....if you are constantly crashing/repairing, the cost in the long run will end up being the same if not more than getting a good TREX to begin with.

Good luck either way bro!

I bought the 400 just after Christmas thinking it was good to learn on. I flew fine and ran fine. Ihad no prior experience with Helis so ihad no baseline. I crashed it alot and always easy to get blades and the basic other parts. However. One special crash caused the seesaw holder to break. the part is listed at $2.99 and has been on backorder for 2 months. i superglued it twice and not it sits waiting on parts. Servoc are hard to get and id you upgrade to the Spektrum DSP75 servos you have to replace them all. I got tired of waiting and bought the 450 SA ARF kit and have been flying it for 3.5 weeks. A few crashes but parts are found on every street corner. it also flew SO SO SO much better that i got better faster. I simply used the DX6i radio and mapped the trex into it. I believe the seesaw holder will be in stock tomorrow and i dont know if i'll fix it. may just to ebay or craigs list it. the 450 is that much better. In fact i am not 90% complete with a TREX 500 kit. just waiting on swash servoc.

I will add that for a first timers the 400 Kit is a good deal but you will quickly want to go to a 450 or 500.
