Ok, thinkin about trying some tuned pipes and already have a few designs and sizes thought thru and ready to go, BUT, instead of metal I want to use carbon fiber weave. So, I need to know, Since i want to make some carbon landing gear too, can the mat that i use be the same weve size(hopefully very small) and i will not be vacume bagging or anything, I just want to hand lay up.

What the plan is, Is I want to build a 1 piece tuned pipe and experiment with different shapes and sizes, so i need to know if i could use fiberglass or carbon fiber? what resins? I know that some sport bikes have real carbon fiber mufflers and my car I put a greddy carbon can muffler.

I would like to use the finest mat I can but I dont know how they rate the sizes and stuff. All the help availible is greatly appriciated. Mb

As long as you're running nitro, good epoxies will work, because the exhaust temps from nitro are lower than from gasoline engines, and will not cause the polymer chains in the epoxy to dis-bond. A car's muffler is far enough away from the engine that it does not see the full temp of the exhaust, like the header pipes do.
There are high temperature resin systems available for pre-preg carbon, but those require autoclave pressures and temperatures to cure, plus a vacuum bag for material consolidation.

Ok, thanks. Now is it okay to use fiberglass for this typr of app. I would rather practice with fiberglass and then remake it in CF when Im happy with it

Go here.

In the past I have purchsed high temperature epoxy resins from them that did not require any specialised equipment for curing. It was for tuned pipe use.
