Do you have a Wattmeter so you can check the amperage draw of your current setup?

You'll need an ESC for a brushed motor with an amperage rating of approximately 1.5 times the maximum current draw of your current setup.

If your LHS stocks GWS stuff a ICS 480 should do the job (around 15$USD). If you use Lipos get the LI version. Any 10 to 15 amp ESC should be good for that 380 motor 15 amp preffered. Should be a good flying plane with your new equipment. Dont forget to recheck the COG though with the new gear.

Happy Flying
Bob

Thanks to both of you for your replys. No I don,t have a watt meter what would you suggest I buy? And what is an ICS 480 ESC and where would I buy these? I,m sorry but I told you I was completly in the dark. I,m sure you have been asked these things about a million times. I used to fly many years ago but electric planes were not even available. I even flew a cap 21 in novice pattern in the Nats but barely made it through the first round before being elimated very early. Anyway I am now trying to get my 10 yr old interested in RC but things are sure different. Well thanks again to both of you. Season Greetings!

The ICS 480 is an electronic speed controller (ESC) made by GWS, one of the major manufacturers of planes and equipment for electronic flight. You may be able to purchase this ESC at your local hobby shop (LHS). If not, then you can order one from just about any online vendor of e-flight equipment. Examples include All e RC, AeroMicro, and BP Hobbies. These are just a few of the many good online sellers of e-flight gear. Check the vendors who advertise in these forums.

A wattmeter is a very handy tool for any e-flight pilot. At the lower end of the price spectrum are the Watt's Up Watt Meter and the AstroFlight Super Whattmeter. There are other meters with more features, but these two units will handle the basics.

An ESC of 12 amps or more should be fine for the Aerobird.

Thanks gentleman for your input,. this will help me get started. If the weather ever clears we may be able to get in a couple of flights. I,m getting a kick out of these plastic planes but I can not understand why they put 27 type channels in these things. this is the reason I,m interested in changing the radio over. My wife is starting wounder about me because I have bought 4 planes from e-bay and ordered a slo-v today from hobbyzone. so now have 5 to start with. My son should have plenty to plant out in the field. again thanks.

you could always play it safe with a 20 so you can experiment with different props, or a bigger motor. (like a 400 size)
