yes the float planes have to be IMAA size this year, personally I think that the new rules are to keep people from flying float planes and last year I was one of very few who did. I hope they don't do the same rule for night flying, Yuri and I were the only ones of legal size last year [/QUOTE]

I dont think they want to stop the float flying. But, the needed to do something to handle the frequency control. Think of trying to run two flight lines, where one flight line is a couple hundred yards away. People were not returning the frequency pins because they didn't want to make the long walk, or any number of other excuses. With the float planes having their own frequencies, they can keep them at the pond, and the frequency control problem is reduced greatly.

All planes have to be IMAA legal, so they are not discriminating against the float planes. In fact, they have been more then generous over the years by waving the requirement for float planes.

7th year stright for me-- already registered for this year even though I do a lot more buying, selling, talking and trading than flying. Steven-- great photo on the cover of HF. When I first saw it, I thought "Hey-- I know him" I will be sure to look you up this year. (Man, I just can't wait!)

Frequency hogging by the float planes was B.S. Phil Kimbrel was in charge of the pins and when you were ready to fly he would go up to the radio impound and get your radio and the frequency pin for you to fly and then return it when you were done, all in his golf cart. I heard a lot of complaints last year and with me being the only float flyer that flew more than one flight I can say that it wasn't float flyers hogging the pin. One person on my freq. last year was a guy with a jet that hogged the pin to work on his jet most of the time. On saturday he got the pin and made the statement that he was going to keep it all day. He was a **** about it so my wife was happy to see me come home a day early. I won't complain about making the float planes IMAA legal because it's really how it should be. What about night flyers, do you think they should be IMAA too?

I guess is all depends on your perspective. I got it from the horses mouth. Once when the setup crew was discussing this prior to the event as an issue from the year before, and once when they announced during the event that they were aware there was a problem with 'frequency availability' between the two flight lines, and that they had assigned a person to run the frequencies back and froth to resolve it. If there wasn't an issue, I don't know why they would announce it to all the pilots in attendance

In either case, assigning frequencies specifically for float flying, and separating the flight lines by doing so, is a good way to resolve the issue (or non-issue), as one is no longer dependent in any way to the other. Peace for all

Night flyers, or any other airplane flown 'after hours', including float planes, do not have to be IMAA legal. Only those flown during the regular event hours (9-5 I believe). All they are doing is making the entire event IMAA legal, which is always was supposed to be from the start.

Thanks. I'm pretty proud of that cover shot myself. But then, its my airplane, and I also took the photo! So I guess I would have to admit my bias, as it would be obvious anyway

Yes, look me up. I'll be there 24x7 for 8 days! RC bliss (what can I say, I'm an RC junkie!). I'll probably have my 40% Patty Wagstaff Extra 330s, as the one from the High Flight cover isn't completely ready to fly. I should also have a White/Green/Gold Bobcat XL turbine. I'll be in a brown and white 36' Winnebago Adventurer with dual slides.

I would hope anyone from RC Universe would pop by and say hello.

here is what I will be bringing and flying to this years Joe Nall.
Look me up.
Like someone said, all of us RCU members should set a time and place to meet and get to know each other.

Stephan, you have been before is there a good time and place, not to get in our way of flying, food and beverage?

Thanks

RORO

Probably the best place to meet would be at the Gazebo on Thursday night. Friday night is taken with outings for dinner by many sub-groups, and the official shin dig is on Saturday night. So Thursday would be the best night if people wanted to meet up. Either that, or sometime during the day except around the noon time shows.

This will be my first year and I'm flying from Santo Domingo To Miami and then to Charlotte.

How far is Charlotte from the field ( driving ).

My plan is to rent a car in Charlotte and drive there but I don't know how far is it so I can decide where should I stay.

Thanks,

epc.
