I got so caught up I absolutely completly forgot about out gathering until Friday morning. My disk got full on Friday and I did not want to track back up the hill, so I said I would get more pics Sat. Well the weather did me in too. I left at 11:30.

Hello everyone,

Im pretty new to the forums, But I also just returned from the Joe Nall event. I arrived wed night and hit the field thursday morning. The family and I had a great time esp. my little one hes almost 2, he was so excited watching the planes fly until the real ones started the air show, with them being loud they scared him at first takeing off but then he was ok once they got air born. This was our first time makeing it to the new field. My family and I love to go, I dont fly there I just enjoy watching, Maybe in a year or two Ill have something to take and fly with everyone.

It is such a great event, especially to me, It is a good place for a family to go and spend time with each other, Its easy to make friends there and almost everyone is willing to talk about there plane with you, You can get some good ideas on how to do different things to your plane. There is such a good mixture fo scale through sport to areabatic planes, You can get a first hand look at all the different types of aircraft to build. I enjoy the scale warbirds the most , even then I also like the areobatic planes as well. Anyways Ill quite rambling, It is a great event to attend for me anyways since my wife likes to watch also and my little buddy as well.

I've just returned from my seventh consecutive Joe Nall Memorial Fly In. It just continues to boggle one's mind that Pat Hartness welcomes the Giant Scale fraternity with such open arms year after year after year. I for one would like to thank him and all the members of the Confederate Air Farce for all they do for us. The most wonderful facilities, the hospitality, the genuine friendliness of all those guys connected with this event are something one can only appreciate by experiencing it. I hope to see and participate in many more.

Thanks to all.

I had an excellent time driving down. I had two close friends with me for the trip sharing driving time, and conversation time. That made the trip down very entertaining and fun. During the trip, my 40% Extra 330s was damaged when it jumped out of the wheel chocks. This made the tail end of the fuselage ride on the tail mount sideways, which then ripped a hole in the underside. This was my primary airplane to fly during this event. My other two airplanes, a large Decathlon and my turbine Bobcat were secondary, and we were going to try to fly the maiden flights during after hours. The first two days they were grounded due to the winds, and by then the event was under full swing with 8 airplanes in the air during open flying. Not ideal choices for a maiden flight. So, neither got up in the air during this trip. Luckily, I can fly any weekday if the weather is good, and my home field is deserted during those times. I never lack for flight time when I want it.

The event was excellent.

I ran into a few people from RCU, but also forgot about the 6pm gathering. While I was at the gazebo Thursday at 6pm, I was actually on the flight line line itself. By the time I noticed, it was almost 7pm, and couldn't find anyone. Then again, it was hard trying to fit names on name tags to RCU nicknames (bad planning on our part). I did manage to run into people during the course of the event, so I did manage to meet a lot of people, and that was great.

RORO, sorry I missed you. I thought that maybe you didn't make it for some reason. Luckily, there were others that snapped up your dogs and beer, but I saved you some for next year We couldn't camp by the pond since we got there early, and it was closed because it was wet and soft. They opened it up later, but we decided it was too much work to move. Glad to meet those RCU'ers that I did, sorry to miss the others.

I'll post later on the event as I saw it, and have lots of photos to choose a few to post. Also a few good stories and memories.

Larry's gorgeous Waco bipe. I've seen this airplane at many events in the northeast.

This was the most interesting airplane at the event. Prior to the mid air, it was just another airplane. But after, it attracted a lot of attention. If you look at the photo, you would never image that it made a nice controlled landing. I believe it had just enough elevator to hold altitude, and the open fuselage acted at the vertical stab which was completely missing. Nice landing Jeff!!
