Max - Thanks for the reply. Well just a quick low down. I spent several hours last night checking and scratching my head. There are absolutly no wires exposed or chafing. I have tried with 2 different batteries and the problem is identical. So battery eliminated. I have not changed my setup and know for certain that there is not any binding. I went ahead and lubed everything up last night to be certain. I desoldered all of my connections and then resoldered them taking extra care to be sure all the capicitors and ground were well connected. I checked all the mechanical connectors and they are not worn and are solidly connected. I do suspect maybe a servo may be it. I did recently replace my aler servo but in my crash the other night outside I ended up finding that I did damage one of the gears in there. I had originally thought that only the frame was damaged. I replaced the gear and all appears well. It moves freely by hand and functions normally under a 0 load application. It's only 3 weeks old but that dosen't mean that I didn't damage it in the crash. All this mess only began after said crash too BTW. I am stopping at the LHS on the way home for a new HS-55 and I'll replace that first and see. The other thing I suspect is perhaps there may be something wrong in the PNC chip on top of the slo-max. On the surface it appears ok but that isn't a guarentee. If the servo fails to fix the issue I will put the CPP motor I have back in and fly to confirm or rule out the motor. After that it will be a guessing game. I'll try the tail motor after that. If none of those are it that will get me down to the 3-1 or the 6200. If either one of those is bad I will be sending it back because both are expensive, undamaged, and brand new. Hopefully it won't get that far. Time will tell. I'll be hard at work tonight trying to solve it.
I don't run the DD tail. I have the century high preformance tail motor and the hummingbird long rotor. It's a really nice combo. Plenty of tail authority. It really pairs nicely with the slo-max. I am torn as to the next. That little tail motor is now on flight 72. those are 19:30 flights too. It has lasted far longer than any other tail motor I have tried and I know all good things eventually come to an end. I have batted around the idea of trying out a DD tail just to see but have been so happy with the century that I would not hesitate to buy another. We'll see about that too Same with the slo-max. Couldn't be more happy with it. It's now on flight 46. Hopefully it's not gone bad yet. If it has I will be torn as to buying another or giving the new xtreme motor a go round. Been hearing good things about that bad boy too. Decisions Decisions

Mark - I have to be with the other guys here. When I first got into helis and picked up a CX2 I had your setup/mod guide within a week and it got me going with some knowledge that I never would have found otherwise. I would probably be able to say, that guide is partially responsible for my new found addiction to this great hobby. It's intresting now to be in regular conversation with a living ledgend Seriously I don't think that I have ever thanked you for all the info and great conversation you have provided me and many others. So thanks. You don't give yourself enough credit sometimes. I am in Ft Wayne from time to time on buisness. Maybe some day you and I can actually meet face to face and perhaps even have some fly time. I know that sometime late this year to early next I will have a project begining in you fair city. My company is providing the science lab build-out for the new Ivy Tech they are building up there on which I will be the project manager.

Blue skys all! (unfortunately mine are gray today)

Uri,
The new Ivy Tech campus will be a bit further from me than the current one, but still barely a mile away. The current one is blocks away, so you'll be close. The new campus is at the site of the old Indiana State Developmental campus (another learning center - sort of) and I used to fly electric airplanes over there before they locked the place down for construction. If / when you get up here, you will be close by. The old school is demolished and the cleanup continues. Is there going to be a helicopter lab adjacent to the science lab? I think we need an R&D dome for helis and electric planes. And of course battery development and testing!

I'm not ignoring you guys and your good words. I'm just a bit tongue tied.
I suppose that with my natural curiosity and interest in the physics of mechanical stuff, I should be a rich guy, but I didn't go for the engineering degree when I should have. I'm part of the cross-over generation. Excellent careers could be had with high school and intense learning on the job. That changed some time when I wasn't looking. Big mistake on my part. At 58 years old, I'm not starting over now.
So I fiddle with gadgets, and the electric helicopters are about the coolest gadgets I can think of. And then I met you guys and we all sort of learned together. As a 3D CAD designer (Solidworks) I can create some of the stuff that I think should work, and I can mess with weights and designs without making parts. It's all pretty cool. I really appreciate all of you being here for a chat and letting me talk endlessly. We are raising me wife's nephew so the house is a nursery, and I have nothing in common with the guys at work. If not for this forum I'd go nuts.

Bones27, one of our new guys, said it very well;
Besides, like you I enjoy the tinkering, testing, building, modifications and the freindships I have developed over the last year just as much as the flying anyway. I have never met any of you face to face but it seems like I have known you forever. This is one of the nicest most knowledgeable groups of people I have ever been involved with and I consider myself lucky.

Hey Kenn - I found your avatar. Do you recall Crusader Rabbit? I posted a couple of pictures. Some of us remember. Some of you never heard of him. Just kidding about the avatar.

So what's planned for the 4th on your end? Gonna have special meals or something? I'm thinking you'll prefer to pass on the fireworks. For sure all of you guys will be on our minds tomorrow.

We're taking our little guy to an airshow tomorrow afternoon. He loves to go to the little airport near here and watch the planes taxi and take off. He has no idea what an airshow is about other than it involves airplanes. Six year olds are pretty cool. He should get a kick out of the show, but alas no helicopters. Bummer. We did have a helicopter airshow years ago with small helis (R-22?) doing stall turns and loops. That was back in the day when we all knew that a helicopter couldn't do a loop. The airfield got pretty quiet when the pilot proved that gravity isn't really a law, but it's still a good idea.

Anyhow, all the best to you and yours. I hope all of the flying you do is electric powered.

I never heard of that rabbit.
Kenn, my thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family back home and your friends keeping guard over there. Thanks for defending our freedom, we know it isn't free.

Solo, I learned solidworks in college. Great program to use. It seems we would have a great day of flying together as a collective and then to finish off the evening with some MacGyver episodes and a beer!

You've never seen Crusader Rabbit. You kids. I don't know that the TV cartoon was in color as it predated color TV, but the comics were in color. I think the Aztecs had color ink and they predated Crusader Rabbit by about 6 weeks.

Have a good 4th everyone.
GO PUT YOUR FLAG OUT!!

On the subject, we have one monster flag flying 24 / 365 in Ft Wayne.

From The Buffalo Chip; "The American Flag that flies high above Glenbrook Dodge located in Ft. Wayne, Indiana is an established landmark for the city of Fort Wayne. This flag is 50’ x 80’. We believe this to be the largest continuously flying flag in the United States. The flag pole this flag flies from is 43 inches in diameter at its base and is anchored with 400,000 lb. of reinforced concrete and stands over 232 feet and was erected in celebration of Glenbrook Dodges 25th anniversary. "

Max - Thanks for those kind words and a picture of MacGyver that made me smile. It reminded me of that one time when I built a tank with my gerber knife...LOL

Mark, (Ooops!, Soloboss)

Here's a picture of Glenbrook Dodge dealeres flag. Man, it is huge. Also, a picture of my flag. I've been flying it for about 30 years.

Happy forth of July to all,

God Bless and be safe,

Morning all1 happy 4th. Was reflecting last night a bit about what that means. I wonder how many americans think it's about blowing s@@t up and have no idea why. anyway, i was thinking about all our men and women who know all to well. Kenn happy independence day my friend. I met a very nice young military man last night at our weekly poker game who has just finished pre-deployment training as an apache pilot. He is reporting for deployment today. Will be stationed in Bagdad. Name Eric. Flys a CP Pro. who knows you may meet him. I was feeling a bit honored that he chose to spend his last night in the states for a while with us last night.

Mark - I will definately be doing that Ivy Tech project. I believe our phase begins in December. When I know I will be up your way I will let you know. I did an Ivy tech campus last year in Marion. They had a huge lecture hall that was empty most of the time. At the end of the days when everyone had left I would take my CX2 in a fly in that room Was about 150' long by 75' wide. Maybe I can sneak you on the site and we can tear it up Bout as close to the heli-dome as will be put in but it works. BTW I have seen that flag many times. It is a biggin.

Max - You and I have very similar taste in DVD viewing. I too am in the middle of the Mac season 1 set. Brings back memories. I also enjoyed the heck out of Heros. I'm sure you enjoyed that season 1 finale. Was a doozy!

Well I've confirmed my glitching. It is a bad Slo-Max. Only lasted 46 flights. i changed out my servo, still problems, changed other servo, problems, resoldered tail motor, you guessed it. Finally changed out the slo-max for my old weenie CPP motor and glitch is gone. That CPP motor even with an 11t pinion on it dosen't have the RPM range to fly the M24's so i am back to stock blades. The whole thing just bums me out. I am going to head to the LHS today and see if I can find a high preformance 300 class brushed motor to replace ti with. If not I will be giving one of those xtreme 380's a go. Slo-max last 46 flights and the century HP tail motor is at 74 flights and going strong. Go figure. i suppose I should count my blessings and be happy that it's not an issue with the 3-1 or the 6200 rx.

Have a freat 4th all and take a second and reflect on why we celebrate. I count freedom as a pricless blessing and thank those who over the years have made that possible for all of us.

Blue skys(or pouring rain in my case)

Uri, sucks about the Slo Max, but at least you found your problem. I'm not sure how many people actually reflect on the true meaning of Independence Day? I do know that my son who is 22 years old and grew up on military installations is well aware of the price of freedom. He will be one of the first to stand and remove his hat for the colors and anyone around him that doesn't he will let them know the price that has been paid for those colors (very proud of my son if you haven't figured that one out).

O.K. guys, thanks to ya'll I've got this idea in my head about transplanting a Falcon 40 head onto a King 2 body and it's about to drive me crazy. I'm going to take the project on. I've got a birthday coming up in a few weeks and I'm going to have Michael send me a bare bones King 2 and start the project. Any thoughts from the collective are welcome. If there is something that you would like a special report on or a specific picture of as the project progresses please let me know and I will pay particular attention to it. If you see something or think of something as I take this project on please post. I'm sure I will be coming to the collective for tons of advice and bouncing ideas off of you. This is going to be FUN!!!
