Xyster, Sorry about your crash, they always suck but we all know they are part of the hobby. Not wanting to sound insensative and not seeing the crash in person would you say you are impressed, semi-impressed or not impressed with the durability of the B400? The only reason I asked is there could be one in my future and I don't know much about them.

Xyster101,

You gotta get some camo clothing, you could become a trend setter for the other teachers.
Man what a bummer on the crash, keep an eye on the lipo if it's puffed. Don't want to burn up the house for a 50 buck battery, ya know what I mean. Expensive hobby, we all know that.

Jeebuz, the "jesus" bolt too.

Things going great with the HBK2, no mishaps for awhile and that's a good thing.

Take care and blue skies,,
God Bless,

Dave / Choppersrule

xyster101,
AHA!! NOW WE KNOW _ YER A TEACHER!
I figured you were just a lurker waiting for gym time so you could fly.

Like you there is no camo here. A lot of the production guys at work wear camo stuff. I don't get it. It's not a fashion statement. Perhaps they actually believe they are invisible. Axtually, that would explain a lot.

You toasted your bird again? Bummer - really sorry to hear that. I hope the viewers were sensitive to your crisis. It's not quite like watching your dog get run over, but it's no time for rude snickers. I've never puffed a pack from a crash. It's always been from abuse. Hope that works out OK. We do appreciate your perseverance.

This would have been a perfect evening for a flight, but I just don't seem to get it done. Always something else to do. I have a little garage gutter / facia rehab job going this weekend. Maybe tomorrow morning.

Solo

I am a teacher, Wood Shop at the high school level with all my fingers still!
Crashing is part of the fun. Some of you guys are very particular about your birds and take a great deal of time setting them up and getting them to fly perfect. That is great and I am sure you have a wonderful flying bird.
Me, well I don't mind a crash here and there. It hurts the wallet some, but it is a chance to sit in my office, put on some old streaming netflix shows and go to town! I live for the crash! I am good at coming towards myself nose in and then banking away. I was actually practicing doing circles bank. It is like a figure 8, which is easy now, but just keep the bottom of the 8. It is hard for some reason. the heli tends to loose altitude as it funnels down and I think it might have rolled over to an inverted position, well anyway, nose first into the dirt. Some how the blades did not break! Give me 2 hours, some tape, and we will be good to go! It might pull to the left or twitch some, but it is like driving an old car, has personality!

Bones, the B400 is a great heli for the money. It comes with the TX, battery, charger everything you need in one box. You will eventually upgrade the gears as they strip easily on a crash. But you are not supposed to crash. I have Hitec65's with metal gears and they hold up to crashes, now my linkage bars bend instead. I am happy with the performance, customer service and avalibility at my LHS of parts on this bird. I would buy it again. The Trex is nicer, I have flown one, but at almost a few hundred more, not worth it for what I do.

Max, thanks for the info on the B400. I wish I could live for the crash. I think that is what is holding my progression back, I'm afraid to crash.

Wood Shop..., I guessed you were the Home Economics Teacher, you know, sewing and such Wait a minute..., I was dating the Home Economics teacher the year after I graduated from High School and she was a "hottie", unlike you Maxine Guess she thought it was okay since I was no longer in school! Okay, I'm not going there

Max, Knowing you like I think I do now, if I had seen your crash I would have ribbed-ya mercilessly buddy, and expect the same from you in return To bad about the battery though

Do you guys fly 315MM blades on those 400's, or what length?

I'm waiting for an 11T pinion to arrive before I can fly the MT with the Turnigy motor Headspeed with the 13T exceeds the capacity of my blades and running the throttle curve so low (to keep the headspeed down) is causing my ESC to get way to hot In fact, my 45AMP ESC might not cut-it with this motor, will know when I get the RPM up and the head speed down??? Will have to put more flights on the FP the next couple days.

Mark – I changed my Avatar just for you. To answer your question – yes, we usually stay together as a unit, pending people leaving and new guys coming in.

Max – That guy’s trying to avoid the “honey-do-list.” What a smart guy! Heck yeah, living for the crash! I agree with that. I on the other hand live for the flight after the crash…heh. I’m almost up with a new ESC and frame. Now, I’m ready to dive into some hovering rolls. Oh boy! I foresee another crash or two…heh. I see that you and I are are both public servants. I admire teachers and my hat's off to you for your service to our kids.

Dave – Yes sir, I’m sort of a short timer now. Soon, I’ll be counting weeks, then eventually days.

Randy - The B400s use 325 blades. I don't know of anyone (here) using shorter blades.

Randy-0-,
I would agree that you would have to jab me a bit on that landing. They are so neat sounding. Usually it goes something like this:
Heli is doing some extreme turns and the blades are making that awesome whirling sound and the motor is churning at full power. The you see it, sideways and loosing altitude, but it looks ok as the pilot has done this before. Then it vanishes into the weeds with a sound of "OH Shoot!" (edit for high school kids) and a "ziiIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGG" of the motor getting louder until I realize I need to hit throttle hold.
After that is is exciting to see how many parts are not on the helicopter anymore. This crash looks fine though. The only damage you can see is the broken skid and other then that it looks like it might take off again.

Yet again another cool picture, I seem to have a lot of military ones, guess you guys get bored easy. Here is the government charging tolls to even those who serve our country!

Golly, Crusader, I was just messin' around. I recall Crusader Rabbit from my youth. I wonder how many others will.

For those wishing the weather would straighten out so they could fly, c'mon to Northeast Indiana where it's warm and sultry without a breath of moving air outside.
In fact it's so calm out there . . .

(audience) "HOW CALM IS IT?"

It's so calm that when I was adjusting the tracking on my Belt CP the leaves on the neighbor's trees moved!

I'd give it a go tonight, but what will I use for an excuse when I ditch it?

Randy - Sorry about the Jinx my friend. I try to keep the vibes decent but I have no one else to complain too The wife humors me but dosen't really care.

Max - You are correct, I do fly 19:30 flights. Still 46 is not all too many. Slo-Max is not pricey so it dosen't break the bank. I was just hoping to get a longer life out of it. Like I said before i am still running my original Century tail motor and am now at 78 flights. They are all the longer ones. I would just expect the main to outlast the tail. Besides I didn't know wood shop teachers could do math J/K. Plenty of math in building wood projects. Bummer about the crash, oh wait a minute if you live for the crash maybe instead of offering condolances we should congratulate you. So Congrats on the crash It is a bummer about the battery though. Keep a close eye on that one.

Mark - Never gotton out of the car near the flag. I'm sure it's impressive. I know that just seeing it you gotta be impressed. It really is enormous. Maybe when I'm up there I can take the oppertunity and do so. Unfortunately the Home Depot banditos got my wallet too on Friday and 2 more times on Saturday. Least they left me with my purchases. Funny stuff.

Kenn - Hopefully you'll be counting weeks soon. i'm sure you can't wait to get home. I know we are all wishing you and the rest of our troops a safe and speedy return.

Shane - Really, what does golf have to do with helis. humph! Hope you had a good time. I too enjoy getting out with the sticks once and a while. I stink at it but don't take it too seriously so it's a bunch of fun.

Well I was unable to procure an acceptable motor replacment for the Falcon this weekend. Hit up the LHS on Friday and did buy a motor but was in the long run dissapointed. It was a PZ 480 brushed for the F-27 that they put out. Wasn't even able to get the falcon off the ground with stock blades. Not enough RPM. The 480 did look cool sitting in the bird though. It's a monster. I ended up ordering one of the xtreme 380's from Michael. I will do a full report on it when it arrives and is installed. I was able to continue my hover training on the CPP motor. It will lift with stock blades but I don't have any real climbing power. I had a couple of flyable days outside this past weekend which I passed on because of lack of power issues. Don't want to crash because I can't climb out of a nose down run, which has happened before on that motor. Look Ma! I do learn my lesson sometimes .

Have a good day all.

Ok, OK, I am finally tired of crashing. After my last crash into the weeds, I got her all back together last night and wanted to fly today with a camera on the heli. So I used some tiny bungees and hooked the camera onto the skid. It worked great as long as I flew with constant right stick to keep it level. I ended up flying into a tree and dropping about 10 feet to the ground. So I fixed that and then mounted the camera again, but this time mounted the battery on the opposite side to offset the camera. It worked great! I even made a video, then I got all cocky and tried to do nose in, that ended bad and I crashed again into the ground. My LHS is out of main shafts which is all I need, the rest I had. Anyway here is the video, unfortunately it was not filming when I crashed, sorry.
