It has been 5 years since I started this thread of my build of the Turbinator, I was looking for a nother jet so, I decided to continue with this project, I know by now many have been build and enlarge also, even the ARFs are out there

It has been some time since I build anything, I forgot how much I enjoy it so, here I go again with the Turbinator, round 2 ( ding, ding )

Today I reread the instructions and got to glue the retract/steering servo mounts.

I will be posting and comenting as I go, I have some thoughts regarding the build.

I was looking at the for sale jet section and they're just to much for me so, I decided to go the, build it yourself from the ground up, also not everyone is flying one.

You will have a ball building something with your own hands and watch it take to the air and come back down for a landing u Der your own command. It's just different when you build your own from the ground up.

I couldn't agree with you more, I build so many ARF prop and jets in the last 5 to 6 years that I have almost forgotten how much fun is to build and ( like you said ) to see your own creation leave the ground and come back down after a successful flight ( priceless ).

Quick balance question: Should it be balanced right side up or upside down?

I balance my models up side down, even if thy are 30 + pounds.

Gary I like the way you did it with a 3 piece wing, i like to be able to keep the center section with the fuse.

I have a 29 lbs turbine been use at he moment, I like the idea of using it on a larger Turbinator some time in the future.

Are there any videos of the larger turbinator out there?

Sorry, not much video out there. Part of the second flight...a little of the take off and the landing, which was the worst landing I have had with it. I flew it 6 times the weekend I maidened it but have not been able to get back out to fly it.

It is a dream to fly.

Spent the past week with Nick Ziroli at his Florida retirement home. He gave me his prototype std size Turbinator with a two piece plug in wing and stab when I left this morning. We went flying at the local club 6 miles from his home in Sarasota. Great field and guys I had lunch with Nick, John Hay, and Vince Veltree during the week. The four of us met this morning along with Paul thier club President and John Smith. Great group of builders and I can't wait to retire and be down there all the time.

I got the nose gear installed, made my own gear mount from 1/4 ply, I prefer a plate than rails.

What servos would you suggest to use in the Turbinator?
I was thinking of using Spektrum A6020 for the flying surfaces and 15 Kg servos for the flaps?

Duthie.
