For starters there is not Exceed Electric forum so I'm posting it here like the rest.

I just put in my order for one of these 1/10 Exceed Dynamite electric trucks this morning. I've been researching all friggen day on electric RC cars and more specifically, the DETAILS about this truck.
I've read every topic/thread on this forum pertaining to this brand truck. Some answers were found, lots of insight was uncovered, but I still have some nagging questions I need answered before my truck gets here. I know for the $99 bucks I paid I shouldn't expect top notch quality and I accept that. I can spend $10 here, 5 there, 20 there on random parts just fine. What I really want though is to ELIMINATE the problems before I even begin my journey into RC electrics. I have had an Associated RC10 nitro truck in the past so I know all about them but the electrics elude me. I'm pretty much going to list a series of questions and hopefully you fine folks can help me out with some advice and/or answers. Lets get started shall we?

1. Compatibility. I've read that other Exceed trucks (mostly nitro) and cars share similar platforms with other brands like redhat. What, if any, other brands/models are identical to the Dynamite?

2. Batteries and chargers(2 part) - I've already ordered (2x) 7.2V 3300mAH NiMH RC Batteries from radio shack based on numerous accounts of the battery that comes witht the truck is a P.O.S. Can I go higher? I think I saw some 4000's and 4200's somewhere but where a bit more expensive. Chargers - the kit comes with one but I was reading that it takes 12hours to charge a battery?! I want something that will charge my batteries in the least amount of time possible. Can someone help me track down a good charger for NiMH batteries? I'll end up getting 2 or 3 more batteries anyway.

3. ESCs and Motors - Ok i've been reading a lot on these 2 items but I just can't figure it out. Other than trying to find non-brushless ESC's for the last 2 hours I just don't understand what they mean in their specs: Motor Limit 12 turn Motor limit 27 turn... I understand the turn part, and I can tell by shopping for motors that they have turn #'s and such but limit from where? a turn 1-12 for a 12 limit? What is the actual range these things mean? . I've ordered a new motor already also, Trinity Speed Gem Pro nitronite 12 Turn Double Modified Motor. Based on my researching sounds like the right power to speed ratio I'm looking for (More torque/power than speed). I've hit a roadblock though. I can't seem to find ANY info on the ESC that comes with the truck. All I know is that it says: SP-03018 on it from the pics at the website. I was looking for info on it to find out what turn it was rated to, basically can it handle the motor I just purchased? If it can't can someone point me to a decent ESC to get? I'd like to go brushless like most people suggest but all the brushless motors I searched for were for planes and helicopters. None said they were for RC cars/trucks. Also, if I can find a brushless motor to use, what ESC should I choose. Suggestions for combo's are greatly appreciated here!

4. Radio - Has anyone had any issues with these? All I know is they are pistol grip style and 2ch. Can't find any info on what exactly the controller model is for this package or I could find out the range these things have and whether or not I should go ahead and get a new one.

5. Gearing - Yah so there is something with this whole gearing thing I reckon. Something about speed/accel differences. GREAT! Less teeth is better accel/torque I think. This kinda fits into the compatibility question, but what other brands gears fit in this truck? Are gears universal?

So ends my list. Not a very long one really. I haven't recieved my dynamite yet of course since I just ordered it today but I'd like to get my parts/upgrades shipped to me so they arrive around the same time as my truck does. I've come back to R/C after a very long time. Can anyone remember Raider ARR's from the 80's? Lol thats how long it's been for electrics. I've always enjoyed R/C cars but a lot has changed since my day and I'd like to catch up a little bit. Thanks for any suggestions or answers you guys can give.

1. It's shares parts with Redcat/HSP/Exceed/Amax/Himoto/etc. Do you need to know where to get parts?

3. It means that you can have 12 turns or HIGHER. The 12 turn will probably burn out the esc. SORRY. I'd sell it or cancel the order. I tried a Speed Gems 15 turn (not in the vehicle/just quick unload to see if the esc heated up) and barley got warm at all. Redcat sells a brushless (BL) motor system (esc/motor) http://redcatracing.com/itemdetail_part.asp?partno=kitbrushlessmotor or you could get a more expensive one for $200+ (I could recommend one if you're willing to spend that much).
4. Radio should work far enough for general bashing. Not sure exactly how far. Compared to other brands, it has a slow response but is MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER than a "toy class" radio. They can't be compared.
5. The gears are 48p or 48 pitch. You are right: Less teeth on the pinion=more acceleration,more top end, and cooler motor temps (unless it's undergeared). More teeth on the pinion=hotter temps,more top end,less acceleration. With a lower turn motor, the pinion gear must be lowered. Raising the teeth on the spur will have the same effect as lowering the pinion gear.

I have the Redcat Volcano EPX if you have any other questions

Thanks for all the info! To fine tune my questions:

1. Do I need to know where to get parts? Yes. Other than exceeds site. You mentioned brand names but not models. Are all 1/10th electric trucks made by these other brands the same thing?
2. That one is a bit pricey for what I'll be doing with it. I found one at radio shack that is "ultra fast" about 15-30mins avg for one.
3. Ok so the motor I bought will burn up the ESC. I'm not switching to brushless just yet so I need an ESC that will work with my motor I just bought(previously mentioned). As for your explanation of the turn limit range, I'm still confused. I would need an ESC that had any # higher than 11 limit, like any 1-27 limit one would work? It's tough to explain one's confusion to another person! hehe. Point me to a reasonably priced ESC that will work with the motor I got and I'll be happy

I'm looking at this one: HRC41830 by Hitec It's got a 23turn limit so that means anythign up to 23 turn would work?
4. Sounds like it will work for the time being.
5. What is the general pitch range for gears? If you answer the previous question I can get an answer to the next one. For the 12 turn motor I purchased are the stock gears going to be suitable for it? Which gears are we talking about anyway and how many of them need changing when doing the motor swaps? You state that with a lower turn motor, I'm guessing a 12 turn is low??, the pinion gear needs to be changed. OR I can change the spur gear for the same effect. Fantastic. I'll be looking at gear sizes after posting this so I may answer some of my own questions but I'm think of others who may read this later too

I do apologize for being so full of questions. I also thank anyone and everyone who posts replies. I hope this helps others in their R/C newbism.

One other thing to remember when you order your spare parts, the parts might have the other Exceed car names associated with the parts. When you go to the spare parts section on either nitrorcx or exceedrc, and you select the Dynamite truck, there are cars parts here. However they can be used in the Dynamite as well. Before the parts come, I would call and just make sure that each part that comes, will actually fit in the truck. I ordered almost everything in my first spare parts order and almost every piece is labeled for some other car than the dynamite (i.e. Razor, Forza, Infinitive...)

1. The Redcat Volcano EPX parts will work for it http://redcatracing.com/itemdetail.asp?basepartno=VOLCANO-EPX You can get parts at www.clermontmotorsports.com or www.allaboutfunhobbies.com They are also on the forum to talk to. They're both very dependable guys. Hobbytown USA is starting to carry redcat parts, so ask your local hobbytown usa.

2. If the limit is 15 turns, you can use a 15 turn, 16 turn 17,18,19,etc. You CANNOT use a 14turn ,13,12,etc.

5. You're going to need to lower the gearing for a 12 turn motor. I'm not sure exactly how much. I would try a 12 tooth pinion and a larger spur gear and check the temps, if you can't hold your finger on the motor or esc for 5 seconds, it's too hot.

Cool. good info here. I'll order the 2 gears today. I have ordered a Tazer 12T FWD/REV ESC. I found out about that by viewing a youtube video and posting a reply to it. The video was electric dynamite in action. He said his next video was going to be an upgraded motor, ESC, and controller. He replied back that he did in fact get this same one and that it should handle the 12t motor just fine. If I think of any more questions or I have any trouble with these parts when installing them, I'll be sure to come back here and ask you fine folks!

Now all thats left is to wait.

The stock spur gear is 64 teeth and you will probably need a bigger spur gear to fit the 12 tooth pinion.

ok so a bigger spur gear (more than 64 teeth) will be needed along with a spur gear that is 12 teeth'ish. I can do that but having difficulty finding out which ones are compatible with this truck. You have given several different manufacturers for matching parts but I can only seem to locate stock replacements and the occasional aluminum upgrades. I read somewhere else on these forums that Associated gears work on these trucks. I have found many sites with a great variety of gears and such but some look different than others and I want to make sure I get the right kind. Are they somewhat universal in both pinion and spur? Can anyone put up a pic of their spur/pinion? Keep in mind my truck hasn't gotten here yet and probably won't for another week.

Sorry to say this but I just looked at my truck and I don't think a bigger spur gear will fit. Try about a 17 turn motor with it and a larger pinion (15 teeth maybe).

19 turn motor might be better for gearing. Try it stock first.

Are you referring to the stock gearing? I'm used to my Associated RC10 nitro truck so obviously I want some speed out of it, but I mainly need it to power through whatever I drive it into. I'm looking at 17-20 motors. I have the one I previously ordered about to arrive any day. Dunno what I'll do with it...

I've been trying to piece together parts lists for my truck and I just can't tell which to get. You guys have helped with some great info so far but I need a little bit of a hand getting started on locating the type of gears I need. Granted I don't have the truck yet and that would help a lot probably, but what non-stock replacements (upgrades) will fit this? It may help if some owners who have modified theirs post what upgrades they made, and if possible, state if one part would need the other to function properly.

I'm sorry for be soing dense about this. You guys rock!
