Pilot.
I've seen all your cool pilots. I can't have an empty seat. I went and picked up the Ken doll at Target for $5. While I was there, I grabbed a $5 Barbie as well. Ken won't fit without major Butt sanding. Even then, cutting out some seat, butt grinding, etc, he sits a little high in the saddle for my taste.
So I broke out the Barbie in her 2 piece swimsuit, stole Ken's clothes and put on her. 'Tailored them to fit her better using CA.
I really like the height that she sits in the plane. I think she'll do just fine as a pilot. Better looking than Ken anyway.

I guess it didn't look really all that believeable. This way she looks like she can at least try to be spraying crops.

noodle,
Your spray booms look great!

I'm going to use your method of mounting.
How did you glue them in & get the covering
to look so good?

If your getting too much back pressure,
add more holes, but leave the drop down
tubes. Those look realistic, but you won't
be able to tell where the smoke is coming
from in the air.

This is fun!

Johnny C,
I used epoxy to glue them to the sides of the ribs. When you make the slits in the wings make them just wide enough to glue them without scrapping it off on the covering. The outer two hangers required a thin piece of covering to make it look good. Also if you glue a small piece of balsa under the outer side of the hanger it acts as a backer to iron to. Hope this helps out , post some pic's when you get it done. This is what it's all about, fun fun. Keep the props turnin.

I took my once pristine Great Planes Super Stearman pilot and made an ag driver out of him. It is hard to tell in the picture but he looks like he has had a long day over the fields.

Johnny,
Did you get your spray bars built yet? I've been working on my smoke system, almost got it. Just have to mount a servo for
the smoke valve, "hope it works". Post some pics when you get em done. C ya

Noodle,
I tried a windshield washer pump, but
it would not run with either a 4.8 or 6.0 volt
battery, so I returned it. I have decided to
get the plane flying & then work on the
smoke system.

Did you use a Sullivan system? I'll start
researching that. My LHS owner said he
had found a smoke system that had an
all in one module.

I did install a Gem. I'm going to install a
GI Joe with a roll bar & seat belts,
although I have been wrestling with
the best way to install the pilot. The
seat area of the fuse is not seem very
sturdy to me. But I don't intend this plane
for a lot of aerobatics, so I guess it will be
OK.

This one has been going slow, but I'm
still enjoying it.

I'm off to the workshop now.

Later !

Johnny C!

Johnny C;

Instead of a Windshield Washer Pump; try a TME Smoke Fluid Pump, here's the link:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHS72&P=ML

I used 2 of them on a Kyosho AgWagon with the spraying system I built; the problem I found was that the Pumps pumped out enough water and the spray bars worked, but the spray was too fine, and it wasn't too visiable, the water quickly misted and dispersed by the prop wash, I put red and orange dye in it, and you could barely see it, even tried white latex paint, had a 16 oz water tank, and the thing sprayed good, just not too visable.

The one system I know worked was a guy, David Hayes, used 2 Compressed Air Retract Tanks, to propell Fire Exstinguisher Powder through his spray bars, highly visable and realistic.

A lot of discussion and pictures in this thread:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1639293/tm.htm

As far as my AgWagon, I gave up on the Sparying Idea, just couldn't get it to work right, didn't want to invest in the the Compressed Air set up.

Doug.

Johnny,
I used the cheap method, a dubro super smoker valve. Alot of people say a 2 stroke won't smoke, but i got it. I put six coils on the muffler and used an old needle valve for a restricter. The smoke fluid is super-dri ,this thing smokes like crazy. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow to show you. I don't do any crazy flying with mine either, just slow and scale. The pilot seat deck in mine holds my batttery so i think your pilot should be fine. I hav'nt found a pilot for mine yet ..... C ya

Thanks Guys!

Good info.

I ran across this free smoke secrets manual
on Tejera Microsystems.

http://www.tmenet.com/downloads.htm

Lots of good info there.

bassfisher,
This was the only picture i could get to work. The smoke tank is a 4oz and is on top of the fuel tank. There are five coils on the muffler. I was able to ditch the needle valve and it seems to work better. It's been snowing so i haven't been able to get a good pic of it in action. I also found a picture of it on it's maiden with the spray bars.

Hi Ya'll, Need info,(if u please!) I have a Pawnee coming that is supposed to land at my LHS on the 9th of Sept. I'm trying to get all the goodies before it gets here. I have a Thunder Tiger .46 to pull it. (Hope that will do it) What I need now is a red blinking strobe to put in the little red light that sets on top of the canopy. Any ideas on what one to buy, where to order, and last but not least, how to install one? I'm an old timer in r/c but it's been over 30 yrs sence I been into it, forgot a lot o stuff. Thanks in advance for your help. Bill

I haven't started installing the smoke system yet. Maybe that will
be one of my winter projects. I did buy some airfoil shaped
aluminum tubing at a not so local hobby shop. I intend to at
least install the booms, even if I don't get to smoke system.
I have been flying it for the last few weekends. The FS-70 is
a great combo,so the .46 should be good power. I would
cheat to the larger diameter, lower pitch props, to keep it
to realistic speeds. This will give you good climb capability, also.

It's one of the nicest flying planes I have.

Good Luck!

Johnny C!

I used an Electrotek Gem 2000 for the strobe on top of the canopy and the LED from the glow driver as a microphone for the pilot. I fly mine with an O.S. .61 and it has more than enough power.

has anyone info on the balance of the pawnee? I was at a flyin in Weslaco this past weekend and was told that Hangar 9 recommended that the CG be moved between 2 1/2 inches and 3 1/8 from the leading edge, not 3 1/8.
