I saw a beautiful new Northstar at our weekly float fly last summer. I commented to the fellow next to me how nice I thought that new Norhtstar looked. His comment was, "did you ever see an old one?"

I have a pond behind the house I fly off of and if I am on wheels I fly off a hay field next to the barn. My planes are bush planes big wheels.

Did any one build an Ultra sport 1000 with retracts? If you did, which retracts did you used?

Thanks

I got a set from HK for my US-60+15 they work great price too. Down side took 5 weeks to get here but for $130 I can live with it.

I have a flying question about this plane.  Currently I have a 4 star 40 with an OS 46 ax on the nose.  It is a good flyer and I can handle it just fine.  My question is, How will the US 60 compare in flight to the 4 star?  Other than speed (Im assuming the US 60 will be a bit faster) what should I anticipate on the first few flights?  Thanks in advance for the help.

I’m having an issue with the fit of my canopy. The back fits well with about a ¼ of an inch of plastic overlap on the side but at the front I only have a 1/16. I made a template of the front block off the plans and shaped the wood to match. Should I continue to remove wood to lower the front of the canopy? Should the overlap be the same from back to front?

I would trim off some of the forward edge of the canopy. That will allow it to sit lower

I had the same situation on mine so I put a 1/4 balsa piece and curved it down.  I gives a smoother curve in the cockpit.  I might do it on the headrest piece too.  The photo illustrates what I did.

It's sad to look at this thread and see Mikes status as 'offline'. R.I.P. friend.

Agreed, that is the worst thing about the 'status' indicator. A few other members that I liked are also 'offline'. No fun to see that when you run across posts of theirs. Too bad there wasn't an honor term of some sort for these offline members.
