John:

Being named "Norton" you should have one of these. Norton Manx bike with a Vincent enine.

It's a very old picture, I still had hair (on top) when it was taken.

Bill.

William you are my hero what a motorcycle. A Vincent that handles! Whahoo. I sure wish I could have road that!

In 1969 I was a baby faced 19 year old living in Los Angeles riding a Honda 305. I worked at the family bakery and my Uncle decided he would give his employees a bonus. Actually I think he was just sick of me telling him motor cycle specifications for all the different bikes. I really wanted a Norton Commando 750 or a Triumph Tridet Triple. I checked the local Norton / Triumph dealer and they wouldn't even let me hear one run much less take it for a test drive. Down the street there was a Honda dealer offering test rides on their new 750 Four. I bought the Honda 750 Four. My Uncle bought one too. I missed having sand cases by 2 bikes!

A month later I showed up at the Norton / Triumph dealer and showed them the pink slip. Sometimes it pays to treat young people with some respect instead of just blowing them off. I'm now 55 and still haven't forgot that lesson.

John

Dave--If "that old guy" could fly half as good as he could drink beer, he coulda broke the sound barrier just by flappin' his arms real hard. We (my USAF Flight Nurse class) bought him beer all evening long; didn't seem to faze him one bit, but damn, could he tell a story. I guess he's about the most 'direct' person I ever met, famous or otherwise. Of course, someone who's been there, done that, like he has, can say whatever to whoever he wants. You couldn't help but respect him, or like him. Of all the people who've made aviation what it is today, I'm glad I got to meet HIM.
