Hello, I'm a first time flyer and I just recieved my first plane. I went with the Bellanca Decathlon after reading some good reviews. (I also liked the color scheme a bit better than the Cubs I've seen. I just finished building it and I was doing a few tests in my living room, when I noticed a bug. (or maybe it's normal, thats why I'm here) It seems like the motor loses power, or hiccups, when I give it full throttle on occasion, and I can't seem to find a throttle trim that suits it. Could it be interference from my apartment or does it sound like I may have an issue with the motor itself?

I'm wanting to take my maiden flight with my father this evening (he's an experienced Nitro flyer) and the wind is approximately 9mph, but it looks fine outside, and it doesn't appear to be gusting bad. Does the wind get stronger when I get over the treeline etc, I've been studying video's of newbie mishaps and the causes of them so I don't make the same mistake's as them. I also understand that very minor adjustments with the control sticks are used and to be mindful of overcompensation.

Thanks for reading and I would appreciate any and all constructive critisism to help make my first flight as enjoyable as possible.

Jesse

Hi Jesse,

Welcome to R/C flying! Although the Bellanca would not be my plane of choice for a beginner, with your dad's help you should be OK. Read up on the following info prior to your first flight: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18
and this: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1777.

The wind is definitely stronger above the tree line. As a beginner, you should be flying when therer is virtually no wind. 9mph is definitely too much for you to start with. Wait for a better time/day. The best times, with the least wind, are the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset.
