Hey Folks,

Just recieved my WH Edge 540T V2 and I wanted to share my layout of the power system that I am going to use. I have read and talked to various people on the installation including SinCity Jets; which thought that this was light weight, economical and yet has some redundency. I just didn't think it was necessary to start putting expanders, dual switchs, etc. in this aircraft. (The KISS Method)
I would appreciate any input / suggestions that you may have.

The pack is a SinCity A123 2S1P pack with a set of 14 AWG wires to the output and a JR 3 wire lead that will connect to a Du-Bro charge jack. The battery output leads will connect to a Smart-Fly HD w/DSC switch (14AWG) leads input, which then has two separate JR leads to 2 separate inputs on a JR 649S PCM RX. {This is where I figure I have some sort of redundency for power to the RX with this double pole switch if both sides don't burn out/malfunction}....... It also provides for a better flow of current to the RX. The adapter cable for charging is also from SinCity Jets and has one JR connector on one end and the CellPro 4S connector on the other. I'll be able to charge the battery right from the charge jack on the side of the aircraft using the FMA Cellpro 4S Charger. You could always charge through the charge jack on the Smart-Fly SW but then balancing would not occur with the pack. There are alot of differnet opinions on this...balance or not to balance......I will balance all my packs while charging.

A lot of folks keep asking for diagrams etc, so I went through and drafted one up for anyone that is interested. I'm right along the same lines as alot of folks is that pictures or diagrams are worth a thousand words.

Not sure why there are so many of the guys that think everyone should be able to understand their expert instructions and are not willing to post any pictures or diagrams.....Were not all electroinc Wizards here.!!!

Hope this helps some and I'm looking forward to all your comments..........

Thanks Again!!

Mike

Looks like a great setup! Many guys are using the A123's now, several doing ignitions from the new Black and Decker VPX 1100 cells, and some on 2.4ghz running ignitions off the RX packs. These batteries are super for us! Cell Pro is really great, too!
You'll love the power available.

Here's a link of some "home brew" stuff from my website.

Thanks Bob,

Really appraciate your comments.

Yes I have been reading about some of the other packs out there and folks using them on the ignition side, even through the RX packs. I have the DL50 going into this bird and I'm not sure of the ignition version on it, so I'm not sure that it will handle the voltage. I heard the version 1 ignitions will not handle it. But I'll have to check into it.....for now I was thinking of just sticking with a 1500mah NIHM 4.8V pack on a separate switch.

I'll be going to your site and check things out...thanks for the link.

Your right these packs are GREAT!! They should take the RC world by storm....not sure why they haven't actually....LOL

Thanks again,

Mike

Cool.... for you, the B&D 1100 may be "perfect" to make into an ignition pack. If you have the v.1 DL Rc-Excell ignition, you'll need a "dropping diode" in the + lead after the switch, and it will be fine. IF it's v.2.0 RcExcell, they work fine on full 2SA123 voltage. I have two like that, and did the field testing for RC Excell on the A123 batteries.

You are gonna be really happy with engine, plane AND batteries, for sure!!!!!!!

GREAT!!!....thanks for the information Bob.

I am really excited about getting this bird in the air......well at least getting it completed...... We got another 6in of snow last night and its snowing again......LOL.....8" tonight.

I've had the DL sense last summer, going in a TF P51 GS; but the build slowed down during the summer....flying to much probably, so I decided that I really wanted to get this engine going instead of collecting dust......so it will be up this spring on the first nice day.

Should be a great package from all the positive reviews i've read on all components.

Maybe I should start another thread on the building of this with the DL...????..............

Thanks again,

Mike

Looks pretty good--Only thing I would do different is have 2 switches. The way you have it setup now looks like your running your power through a single HD DSC switch. If that switch fails, then all your power is lost. Other than that I like it. The A123's are awesome!

Hey Joe,

Well from my discussions with Smart-Fly that is why I went to this double throw, double pole switch, so that if one side malfunctions I still have another side for redundency. Both side are independent of each other, other than there being fed by the same input lead. Your right thats where I could end up in trouble.....but with 18 guage wire input leads to draw from I think it would be pretty rare.

But thanks for your input on this....still kind of mulling it over myself..LOL.

Mike--Im sure that will work fine. My JRHD switches only have a single output lead so you may have the same protection I do except in a single switch. Besides I like to worry about that stuff!

Joe, I worry about that too.

I would hate to lose a $2000 + airplane because of a switch.......

Smart-Fly is a good switch and they have me pretty confident in its redundency factor. I'll let you know if I have any problems.
