Status: offline 		Is the starter wand included with all of the SP series engines now? Looking at buying, but not sure if I need to purchase the wand seperately or not.

Status: offline 		Good! Thank you for your response... your attention to posts on here is 1 of the reasons I've chosen to go with an RCV engine as my 1st 4-stroke purchase.

I've been a 2-stroke modeler for nearly 20 years now, mainly because I've enjoyed the simplicity of these engine... no valves to have to adjust, ever! LOL! So the simplicity of your RCV 4-stroke engines really appeals to me, as well as the SP series abiltity to swing larger scale-like props.

The only thing is, your hex starter system would have been alot better had it been compatible with heli 6mm hex starter wands. I dread having to change the head of my starter motor constantly from standard rubber insert to heli starter wand to RCV SP starter wand... grrrrrr! At least in the case of my heli, I'm able to use the push-in style starter wand so it's a pretty quick change-over from starting an airplane engine to starting the heli's engine... now I'm not sure what to do dang-it.

Anyhows I look forward to trying out this new adventure. Many thanks for your time and your ear!

Status: offline 		I am getting a 60 SP as new old stock, with no starter wand. Is it OK to use a regular electric starter on this engine? I plan to fit it with a spinner nut. Jim

Status: offline 		Yeah it won't harm the engine... however you need a pretty stout starter to do it that way. I found with my 90SP that even a high-torque starter wouldn't turn it over from the front! I borrowed a fellow club member's starter that was on a 24 volt battery system and that did the trick.

But anyhows I ended up buying a Magnum high-torque starter and clamping the start wand to it and using it from behind. On the plus side, don't have to worry about accidentally burning the spinner with the starter if it slips.

HobbyBarn.com sells the RCV start wand for around $9 US seperately if you need it. RCV needs to design a better start wand though, something with a 1-way bearing in it so it won't back-out the starter bolt on the engine when the engine fires up.

Status: offline 		Thanks Michael, I'm getting the 60, and I have a good Sullivan -- I'm hoping that will be enough.

I didn't understand "back out the starter bolt".

What are you using your 90SP in? It seems to me that until I get a war bird built there is not much that has sufficient prop clearance.
