I think one of the best mods you can do is set the linkage properly.
the way they have set up the servos stock is so wrong, the arms are all low.
this set up makes the servo work the hardest do to the mechanical disadvantage. The sevo is working its hardest in a hover. ie coming to 90 degrees in a hover.
if you know how to set up a heli you know that it needs to be changed.
If you want to change it seek the help of someone that is in the know. because there is alot to change to make it right.
As for these so called crappy little servos. the specs are acually pretty good, they have just been set up wrong. max load is not suppose to be @ 90 degrees. zero pitch or low load is @ 90 degrees.
It can take about an hour + if you know what you are doing to set it up the right way and the difference is noticable when its working the right way.
In a nut shell you want...
the servo arms 90 degrees
swash level ( after setup ajust the linage to hover still insted of trims)
mixer hub level
blades zero
this is all done at mid stick in stunt mode with throttle hold on.
I can post picks when i get more time and list the sub trims that i ended up with.
but i do suggest getting someone that knows this stuff and go over it with them before you touch it unless you know what you are doing.
if you do it the throttle curve is way off ie way to much head speed

Hi guys one of the basic setups we do with all of our blade 400's (we have now set up over 140 of them) is to first of all reset the radio and reduce dual rates on all three functions to 70% dual rates and 10% expo on aileron and rudder, with 30% expo on rudder.
Next up the throttle curve (for indoors) is set to 0, 47, 65, 65, 65, The pitch curve is set to 60, 67, 77, 82.5, 91.5 this gives you a nice progressive throtle and pitch curve that isn't flighty and so is good for a beginner. We also found the rudder was overthrowing from the factory, so we move the tail pitch/rudder linkage in one hole on the tail pitch/rudder servo. Hell I'm a low time heli pilot but even I can fly one of these inside the shop at work with these settings

Finally we have also found the blade 400 benefits enormously from being fitted with Hitech HS 65hb's around the rotor head.....10 times easier to fly!!

Hi all, just read through 6 pages of discussion. I don't see why those 450 guys need to bash the b400. The only upgrade I have done was to put Hitec 65's all the way around. It cost about $100, but it seems to allow the heli to fly better. Since I am new to this, I do not have a comparison. The guys at the local flying field said they never saw a B400 fly as good as mine did which was due to the servos.
Align Parts
I also found the Align feather shaft will work on the B400 you just need to use the supplied spacers that comes in the align package. You get 3 feather shafts instead of two. I also found the Align bearings are the same size as the B400 and you get 4 in a pack instead of two. Both of these parts were out of stock and back ordered at the LHS, so they said to try the align parts.

I have 2 T-Rex 450 SE V2 and my brother is learning on the B400 so I flew his 400 and I also did change the servos for Hitec HS55 and this B400 is amazingly stable in fact I didn't see any difference with my T-Rex.
Dont worry about others opinion on the 400 if you like it,thats what counts, I know its sad for a newbi that is thinking of getting one but we cant get away from that.
My brother started his first circuit around him on flight 27 and is doing very good.

The only big diffence I find in both is its abit harder to work on the B400 then the T-Rex but not that bad.
My brother loves it and so do I and I'm shure you will too.

It will work as long as you keep the Gyro in analogue mode, if you decide to really fly around then it might be a bit slow in response, but for hover and slow foward flight dont worry.

If you want to stay in analogue mode you can go with the Hitec HS50 that has good speed or if you want really good response well you would need a digital servo like the JR3400 or futaba 9650 and switching the Gyro in digital mode.

What kind of flying do you do?

Thats good then, yes the gyro is good for it but dont forget you would need carbon fiber blades for 3D flight , they can take more abuse in high RPM.

But since your just starting out stay with the wood blades at least they brake on impact.

If you already have the 4 servos go ahead and use it on the tail for the training period you will be ok.

If you still have the stock E-Flite on the tail its ok too as the gyro helps it to center and you dont have the same control centering problem you would have on the cyclic.
So you can stay like that for now just make shure the gyro is on analogue very important.

It all depends on what you want to spend.
The Hitec HS55 cyclic and HS50 for tail are not expensive and are good, or the Hs65hb better and a bit more money or the HS65MG better and more money or the JR DS285 even better and a bit more again.
