I just replaced the bearings in my motor.
he factory bearings looked like they had no grease/oil in them.
I got my Blade 400 in late December 2007.
The bearings are 3x7x3, I found that the Trex 600 has this size and got them at my local hobby shop.

Huh, looks like this may be a common problem.

mrich,

Did you also have a failure?
I didn't know that the bearings could be replaced.
How do you go about doing that?

bignuts,

So, are you seeing the same type of failures as I described?

Yes the failure seem so be a common trait one thing of intereset is that the twister brand from Australia is 95% the same helli with a diffrent label but strangely enough we find that the gyro has a 30% failure rate when setting verses the E-flite gyro about 10%...ie you plug the battery in , the horn sounds and there isn't the "twitch" on the tail rotor to say the gyro has set. you may also like to know that the Twister Storm comes with red anodized tail boom, skids, swash plate, red "carbon look" fins and black legs. The parts are an exact copy I beleive from the factory next door to the blade factory, but the body for the storm is ohhh sooooooo ugly but looks great with the flame job body.

http://oos.modelengines.com.au/command/servlet/Command?command=display_item_pub&pkey=meng&f_id=[INVALID%20FORM%20VAR]&itemid=TWISTER3DSTORM

oh buy the way the Darth range of bodies fit straight onto the blade 400....

I beleive the Trex grips will go on since the feathering shafts are the same diameter. However the trex feathering shafts are longer than the blade's. You might have to experiment with both shafts and maybe get creative with washers till you get the right fit. Also the metal balls for the linkages are bigger on the trex grips. You may have to change the upper plastic rod links too. It would be interesting

What I am definately changing is the plastic flybar cage sides. I cant tighten the set screws enough to bite good on the flybar without the plastic threads giving out eventually. When stressed In fast forward flight or sudden decceleration, I notice the rod slips causing the paddles to drift forward or aft just a bit. Really hate that.

Wolfpackin:

Here's the link where I posted the repair.
http://bladecprepair.com/smf/index.php?topic=2346.0

I didn't have a failure, but was trying to track down gyro problems.
I noticed that there was pay in the bearings by grabbing the top of the motor can.
The lower bearing was totally shot.

Are you saying that I need to replace both the grips and the Bell Mixer Arm and Pushrod/Link Set?

Now here at home looking at both of them, Its a little more complex than that. It doesnt seem it would work unless you change the whole head system, The blade grip linkage balls on the trex are in different orientation and They also link to two lower mixer arms located on the seesaw assembly (within the flybar cage). The Blade's mixers are above the flybar cage on the head itself. I thought It would be simpler but I was wrong. I read somewhere here on RCU that someone managed to change the whole head to Align by cutting 1/8 inch off the nain shaft if I recall correctly.

I have two new additions to the B400: GY 401 gyro and a Futaba S9650 Digital Servo. I'll test fly it tomorrow and see how much better this combo is compared to the stock.

I tested the new additions to the B400 and the tail is like a rock in a steady hover, BUT when I crank the throttle up quickly, it's crap! Is it normal for the nose to turn right when I crank the throttle quickly? I figured HH should hold it in place if it's set correctly...I guess I was wrong. On one incident the heli did a 180 on me - I cranked it that hard. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Kenn

Kenn,

With my Belt CP the nose stays in one spot when I add throttle with the GY401 and 9650. But I haven't looked very close to it. And the weather hasn't been good enough to test it out again. And I also switched to the 9257. I have gone from hover to full throttle and my helicopter never did a 180 on me. How high is your gain?

Nick

I need a tip on how to lube the belt, does the belt have to be off or is there a way to do it through the inspection hole. I cant see how to get it on the inside where the teeth of the belt are with out takeing it off.

Nick,

I went back to the stock servo...much better. The 9650 is a high torque rather than a high seppd servo. I'll save up and get a nice high-speed digital servo for the tail. The 9257 is actually mentioned on the 401 instruction manual. I guess that one should work much better.
