Anyone else have a range problem? My transmitter is over 11V charged, I didn't cut the antenna and it runs straight up the tube with about an inch sticking out of the top of the tube and 4-5 total inches above the stock body. The truck is an RC10T4 FT. I picked the DX2.0 up a couple days ago and swapped out my AM Futaba OFNA TX/RX which I never had a signal problem with in my T4 easily going many times further than I can with the DX2.0.

I'm just trying to figure out if anyone has experience with this prob and if it was a defective unit or needed a special setup I somehow overlooked. Very annoying, I can't even do GPS speed tests due to range problems. I have the problem no matter where I'm at and how well charged the battery is. I have to walk up to it and when I get to about 20 yards or so it picks back up the signal and acts as if I just turned it on. I do have them bound together. The RX it came bundled with is the SR3000. I don't see any damage to the antenna wire, the system was new from my LHS. There are no LOS issues and the places I've run it at are many miles apart so I don't see how there would be interference.

Thanks for any help!

Your wires look nice and neat...sickingly neat actually lol But that's a good thing! I know you bought it new, but from the looks of the dust on the truck, I would crack the case open on the receiver, and clean it out. Sometimes I get very limited range in my receivers when dirt and crap gets inside.

It's had this problem since it was first installed, but I'll try anything. I took it apart and cleaned it out:

So I moved the antenna to come out the side instead of the top and I'm sealing it up with RTV silicone now.

Unfortunately it still has crappy range. I will be standing in the middle of the road looking at it 1/2 block away in the middle of the street also with no signal...

Maybe I should try to use the external battery pack that takes 4 AA's for the receiver.

I tried cleaning it again, rebinding it, relocating the receiver and antenna. There are no kinks in the antenna wire. I called Horizon Hobby support and went through everything I had done with them. They said it sounds like a defective unit. They want me to send in both the transmitter and receiver for them to look at. I was told to send it to the address in the manual for warranty work along with a copy of the sales receipt, my information, and the problem it's having. Turn around time is 3 business days they say.

So we shall see. Sorry if I annoy anyone talking to myself here lol, I'm going to update the thread as things move along just to document it for anyone who may have the same problem.

It's all good...hopefully they won't take too long and get your equipment back to you fast! Sounds like you might have just gotten a bad one.

Please keep us posted on the outcome. I'm definitely interested in their customer service because I'm looking at one of their radios after tax season!

OK, so I sent it off USPS Priority last Friday (Jan 4th) and just got it back today (11th). They returned it in a frozen hash brown box lol.

It had this note:

"I examined your DX2.0 transmitter and found it working normally. I updated the firmware in your SR3000 receiver and confirmed sensitivity, binding range(400 ft) and functions. If you and any further questions or concerns contact: Product Support, 877-504-0233 M-F 8:00AM - 5:00PM"

So I immediately went to test it out. I installed it just as in the picture above http://www.adamalter.com/rc/dx2rx.jpg except the car is clean now lol. I stood in the middle of the street and slowly drove my T4 in the middle of the street away from me. I lost signal and paced it out, counting my steps, it was 52 steps which I'm guessing is around 50 yards.

I don't really know what to do at this point, my AM Futaba OFNA easily goes down the same street in the same RC car and goes forever without losing signal. I'd video it with the GPS on it to prove it if I thought it would help at all. Maybe I will take it back to my LHS and see if they will go out in the parking lot and see for themselves and call Horizon to verify.

I had a problem with my DX2.0 when I bought it in that the throttle channel continually glitched. I returned it to Horizon from Australia, They returned a brand new unit in about 2 weeks. Was extremely satisfied with their service

I called them a lil after my last post and they were as usual seeming to want to help. They said it's possible they missed something while testing it. I asked them if they would like me to take my T4 to the LHS and see what they think. They said that would be great if I could. So I took my car to Hobby Town USA, they went out to the parking lot with me and I got about 70 or so yards in the wide open parking lot and lost signal until I walked back within 50 yards to pick it back up. They felt the install was fine and something was wrong with the DX2.0. So they're going to call Horizon on Monday and let them know they looked it over and can verify it has a range issue.

Spektrum themselves claims a 3,000ft range (1,000 yards, over 1/2 mile) reference: http://www.spektrumrc.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1423

I'm not even getting 1/10th of that lol, I'd be totally happy if I could get 1/4 of what it's rated for.

I have the same issue with a DX 3.0 - I get maybe 200 to 250 feet at most. I have 3 receivers all of which behave the same so I thought maybe it was the transmitter. I also have a Nomadio React that will bind to the Spektrum receivers - same deal, terrible range. The Nomadio will run out about as far as I can see. I even tried it at different locations thinking maybe there was something in my neighborhood that was messing with the signal. Now I think the Spektrum is just junk.

Some of the Spektrum receivers had problems from the start and some of the modual systems had problems. One thing you might want to ask Horizon about is minimal voltage with this system, and check to make sure you are not going under that.. reciever only. I had problems with both my modual and one of the receivers and Horizon replaced them with no questions asked.

Horizon will work with you to correct this problem but since the system is new I would return it to the LHS for a different radio and receiver, and try that out. If the problem persists and you get irritated get something different. After my initial problems and Horizon sent me the new modual and receiver, every thing has been fine and I realy like the spektrum system so if you are willing to try a new one I think you will be happy in the end.

Good luck

I grabbed my GPS and was going to video how far it goes before losing the signal, but the GPS only does fractions of a mile measurements and .01 is over 17 yards. So, I decided to grab a tape and measure 50 yards from a point of interest and drive it from the 50 yard mark to the point. So in the video, the fire hydrant is 50 yards from where I'm standing. I lose signal BEFORE it reaches it but it rolls past it. Then I walk forward constantly moving the steering and hitting the throttle until you see it get a signal. I was about 20-25 yards from it when I got the signal back finally.

VIDEO:
http://adamalter.com/rc/DX2.0.mpg

Unfortunately, my LHS (Hobby Town USA) will only exchange or refund unopened and unused items. Their prices are great and they're trying to help me out so I'm not complaining. I just want a properly working system! I want to do a speed test without worrying I'll lose signal and roll into a drainage pit. I want to run at the local track without losing signal on the back straight sometimes.

To rule out any chance of it being my 7.4V Lipo, MM ESC, or the wires from the ESC to the SR3000 I unplugged the ESC from the SR3000 and instead used the external supply that came with the DX2.0 after putting 4 new AA's in it and plugging it into the batt input. This external power is for people using the system with Nitro cars.

I walked away from the car moving the steering left and right and it lost signal still around 50 yards. So it has to be the Spektrum system with the problem and nothing else. The only things plugged in were the 4 AA batts to the SR3000 which was only plugged into the Spektrum servo.

The main reason I tried this was the tech said on the phone, maybe it could be something with the LiPo and or voltage going to the SR3000.

I have no idea how the tech got it to bind at 400ft as it said in the report when they tested it, I have no signal at all less than half that distance both before I sent it in an after I got it back. Maybe they got it mixed up with another system they were testing in at the time for repair! I spent $10 to ship my brand new DX2.0 system in and was unable to drive my T4 for a week and it looks like I'm going to have to do that again.

My wife feels bad, she actually bought it for me for Christmas and thinks she chose the wrong one now. I told her the DX2.0 was a great choice, but she didn't have to get the BROKEN one

I think you got a lemon transmitter or reciever.
I have a Dx2 (the older one) and Sr3000 reciever in my revo and it has plenty of range.
I brought it to the golf course i work at (after closing) and drove it the full length of the driving range and up to the green on the first hole.
Thats around 700 yards.

Good luck,
hopefully horizon or spektrum realizes you have a faulty system and replaces it for you.

I can drive mine to the end of the road, which is something around 50 feet, and with my antenna tucked in, I only get a little bit of lag.

Very interesting. Now that I revisited this thread, I noticed that you have the spektrum in a T4. All of my testing and issues were with a B4. I tried it with my brushless system and when I thought it was that, I tried it with a brushed system all to no avail. I can't imagine it has anything to do with the T4/B4 but it seems really bizarre that we both have spektrum range problems with the same chassis. I think I will dig it out and put it in a different car now and see what happens.

I'm sure it's just random, but stranger things happen... let me know how it goes. I'm still waiting for an email reply or call back from them on what to do. I'd send my whole T4 in if they wanted and promised they'd fix the range problem. Just sitting here looking at it for a week wanting to drive it but no remote is pointless

Wow! Your Spektrum problems are very frustrating I'm sure. My Spektrum works great. I have taken my truck as far as I can see it and it still has good signal.

I called them again yesterday and they said to go ahead and send it back to them once again. I told him I didn't want to be without my remote for another week and $10 just to get it sent back to me again saying no problem found. The guy said since it's the second time I'm sending it in to include a note saying I wanted a brand new replacement. He said they would replace it since it's so new provided it's in good shape (of course it's in perfect shape).

I shipped it out yesterday and will know in a week what happens I guess...
