I was told by Traxxas that I can't use re-chargeable batteries in my transmitter because of the low 1.2 voltage. (That’s not what I was told by the LHS). Traxxas said I need to stick with disposables which carry a minimum of 1.5 volts. Any suggestions?

I just copied this from the Traxxas Jato Instruction Manual

Use the Right Batteries
Your transmitter uses AA
batteries. Use new alkaline
batteries, or rechargeable
batteries such as NiCad or
NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride)
batteries in your
transmitter. Make sure
rechargeable batteries are
fully charged according to
the manufacturer’s
instructions.
If you use rechargeable
batteries in your
transmitter, be aware
that when they begin
to lose their charge, they
lose power much more
quickly than regular
alkaline batteries.
Caution iscontinue
running your Jato at the
first sign of weak
transmitter batteries
(flashing red light) to avoid
losing control.
If the power indicator
doesn’t light red, check the
polarity of the batteries.
Check rechargeable
batteries for a full charge.

The transmitter is a Traxxas TQ (2 channel). It came with the Jato 3.3. The charger is standard four bay Energizer brand. Per Traxxas, the transmitter only takes disposables.

I use the energizer rechargeables in my sons Jato3.3 and have since Christmas 2006. No problems for a full year. I just recharge them after every 2 sessions to be on the safe side.

your Tx will work just fine on NiCad or NiMH......your best bet for longevity and normal use is to get Sanyo Eneloops..........their discharge rate is much less than the typical NiHM while just sitting, residual ratio after one year of non use is 85%*4.

here is a link that will help you next time you want batteries as well,

and this link takes you right to the eneloop
