Wondering which gas engine is a good choice for the AeroWorks .90-1.20 size Yak 54 ARF QB ? Would the Zenoah G26 be a good choice ? Thanks. Bob

Consider going to 50cc in a plane that can be finished out under 16 lb to get adequate thrust to weight ratio for good aerobatic performance. Art Cloutier

Yes Art, that is a good idea, and eventually my plan/goal. But this .90-1.20 size airplane really caught my attention. I should be able to get it in the air fairly quickly .... and like its size. Hopefully, this will better prepare me for a 50 cc size ship. Thanks. Bob

I am sure the zenoah will fly it but I don't think you will have much power. If you are set on going gas think about either the evolution 26gt or the brillelli 26ssr. Both of those engines weigh much less than a zenoah 26 and provide a good bit more power. The evolution and the brillelli will both turn OS 160ish numbers on a tuned pipe. This is just what I have read, I do not have the plane but I was considering it at one piont. For glow power I would go with an OS120ax or YS 110 or 140.

Bbagle1, thanks for the reply/information. I decided to go with the Zen26 and am just about finished with the install. I have learned that the Zen26 will be a bit heavy ... but I am really not looking for a 3D machine ... just a good flying reliable first gasser. Thanks. Bob

Zenoah is not the best for power to weight. Here are my thoughts and experiences. There is a gentleman who will convert this motor to electronic ignition; I suggest this conversion as it saves precious weight. Next, go with a tuned pipe and header. I had very good luck with the same pipe used for the Evolution 26GT2. It will add nearly 1000 rpm (don't quote me on that one, but it is very significant). Last, purchase a Mejzlik 18x6 or 18x8 prop. Expensive, yes, but this will let the engine turn up in to the rpm where it makes power.

Recap:
For power - add header and tuned pipe ($75).
For power - purchase Mejzlik 18x6, maybe 18x8 ($60 - $70). Let the engine turn up rpms.
For weight - add electronic ignition ($125) http://www.rcignitions.com/ CALL HIM for fast response.

Very quiet powerful setup. You will enjoy this setup.

One more point. If you absolutely can't stand the tuned pipe. You should find the largest volume pitts muffler or purchase for RCIGNITIONS a side dump. He has one that does a good job for power. You will not have the power of the tuned pipe and of course it will be louder. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.
