Has anyone used the Mac's pipe with the TT46pro?
If so, whaddaya think? I've got a couple of these great little engines...and am wondering how much the stock muffler is holding them back. What about the Mousse-can muffler? Where would I read about those? Thanks for the help.

The stock muffler definately holds the TT Pro .46 back.

I put a $10 Tower muffler on mine and got a definite increase in power. I don't have a tach, but it is enough that you can easily see the difference in performance. I don't have a Macs pipe. One of these days I may get one and see what it does compared to the Tower muffler.

TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT!

I bought a new THUNDER TIGER 46 and was very careful in the breakin,( I am with them all) I flew it with the factory exhaust and was impressed BUT.
I called ROCKY at THUNDER TIGER repair facility. I told him I wanted a "little" more out of it and asked what I should do.
He recommended the MACS PIPE. over 1000 RPM increase!
and I like the sound.
I put it on a HANGER NINE ADVANCE 40 JUST TO TEST IT

The plane is outragious, way too much power for this type pf airframe. It's a little rocket.

I would advise you to get the "POWER PIPE instead of the RPM pipe"
I have the RPM and it WORKS.

With a macs pipe and moussecan muffler, omega 10%, 11x6 master air prop You will get about 15,600 rpm or at least thats what mine did. John

A tuned pipe (or expansion chamber in motorcycle language) is the single most effective mod you can do to a 2-stroke engine. You just have to make sure you have it set at the optimum length for your application. Macs pre-tuned systems are just about perfect IF you run the recommended prop size. If yo like to run bigger props you are going to have to lengthen the pipe for a little more "bottom end".

What's this "POWER PIPE" versus "RPM PIPE"? To my knowledge Macs only makes 3 different pipes: open tuned pipe, muffled tuned pipe, and the quiet pipe. The open tuned pipe is not muffled and is used mostly by boat racers. The muffled tuned pipe has a chamber welded on the back to help bring the dBs down. The quiet pipe is nothing more than a glorified muffler that gives you excellent muffling with no power loss compared to an open exhaust. Quiet pipes also do a good job of limiting RPM - great for down runs in pattern competition. If you look inside a quiet pipe yo will see there's a big difference. No cones, just baffles. And lots of 'em

Timbersnake,

I've had good luck with the Slimline Sport Muffler and Slimline Pits Style Muffler. Haven't tried the Mac's Pipe.

I got 600 rpm from my TT 46 when I put the tower 46 muffler... However... you'll bet alot more by adding a header and a mousse can muffler.. I got over 1000 rpm when I did this to my TT 36. great motor.

Tha baffle is only good for about 200-500rpm. More on the smaller props, less on the bigger props. The Tower muffler works great with 10" props but not so good with 11" props - unless your running an O.S .46

So how does these increases in RPM effect the actual power/torque. RPM's Sound cool but can you DO anything with them?

Yes there is Jim , Separate the 2 muffler halves and take it out. Before you put the muffler back together , silicone the joint so that you wont get any exhausts leaks and you will be good to go.

Hi John: Just debating here if it's worth it ? Got it completely cowled in , and it's gonna necessitate some tear down ?

tazzdevl1,

To RC flyers, HP and Torque are not part of the lingo, so much as RPM. HP and Torque are great to know, but what we want to know is how many RPS will an engine turn a given prop. From this we can get an idea of how much thrust can be developed.

Besides, there is no standard to measure HP and Torque in RC engines. The makers of RC dynos are more concerned with repeatability rather than 100% accurate results.

RPM do more than sound "Cool"

Without RPM there is no power or torque. HP cannot be measured. It is a product of RPM and Torque both of which have to be measured.

Sorry for the "Cool" statment din't mean to touch any nerves. Anyway, I understand the idea of generating more R's now. I used to HP asrelated to cars. I've got an O.S. .46 FX. Will the pipes mentioned above have the same effect? I've seen the Mac's pipe on some planes at the field.
