I don't know why, but I have become enamored of the GWS line of foam electric planes and am constantly looking for them. It started when I got a C 47. I think I may have a line on that plane somewhere around here.... Anyway, it was quite a complex model for a little (little?? 48 inch wing!) foamie, but it came out pretty nice. I had some trouble flying it tho. She seemed to like to tip stall right after I got her airborne, and there were some impacts which I thought would be the end of her, but she is a pretty tough bird! She took a lickin' and kept on coming back for more. I had issues with the props coming off, and the landing gear- wires breaking/bending and wheels coming off. The battery broke the battery door on some of the hard landings. But gradually it came together and I now seem to have a sweet flying mini airliner. Last time out I was actually looping and rolling her. Make no mistake-you need to fly her like an airliner! Don't horse it off the ground or try any low speed/low altitude stuff, But I like it! This is on the stock motors/props with a 9.6 volt battery.

So now I have another GWS ready to fly, and 3 more kits to build. The RTF is the B 2 bomber. The flying wing job with twin ducted fans. This build went much quicker then the C 47 build, even tho the instructions were not as good. I was impressed by the fact that the wing extensions which you have to butt joint glue onto the main body actually have WASHOUT built into them! I expect this model to be a lot of fun if I can actually get it off the ground. You see, it has the low power 150 size motors instead of the 300H motors. The landing gear are those super light "bicycle tire" type things and even tho the nose gear is steerable the ground tracking was terrible when I had her out yesterday. Mostly she went around in circles. I DID get her fairly straight for one high speed run down the pavement, but when I pulled up elevator the nose went up but the mains stayed firmly on the ground. That was probably a good thing! LOL. Has anybody out there actually flown this model, either as mine is equiped or with the bigger motors and how do you like it?

Besides those 2, I have from Santa Clause a big Tiger Moth and a Stearman to build, and also I haveone of those 4 motor cargo planes. They look like a C 130 and when I get to mine I want to do it in Coast Guard colors. And I have my hopes for the future regarding either a A 10 Warthog or maybe one of those Me 262's....

So who (if anyone) besides me likes GWS planes? What do you have, how did the builds go and how do they fly? I am usung some GWS receivers, escs, motors and I recently bought some GWS full size high torque servos to put in my Giant Aeromaster which Santa also brought me this Xmas.

Have a perfect site with ONLY-- GWS B2 bomber -- as a search phrase.

Are you a member of.. RC Groups... ? If not join it. Then do a FORUM SEARCH. No Google junk.

Type in...... GWS B2 bomber...... Complete posts on good and bad & how to make it really fly.
Great thread.
Send me a PM if you can not find it.

I taught myself on a GWS E-Starter, which might be a bit hot for that but I kept mine light and simple to keep the momentum down on arrivals.

The Formosa is a really solid flying aerobatic plane. Mine is no longer that pretty...

One great thing about GWS planes is that they are good starting points for "kit bashing", doing the plane in a way that did not occur to the guys at GWS. The variety of different ways to do a Formosa is amazing.

I think there is a pic somewhere on RCU showing the foam parts of an E-Starter turned into a low slung twin boom waterplane.

HeHeHe that was my ES turned into a waterplane I was attempting to mold it after the Aerocat amphibian water plane
unfortunatly I made a bad choice in my control cable for the elevator and it met an ugly end
I am however working on another one now, not the same this time, I'm saving that build for later
I also turned a ES into a low wing cessna cherokee and it flew great, I took it one more step and made it a V tail and that was 1 step too far as it became very unstable and met it's demise

GWS makes great inexpensive planes, there are a few things that one needs to be aware of
almost all GWS planes will come out tailheavy when built, certain planes need added reinforment during the build, but for the money they are hard to beat

I have had quite a few different GWS planes and currently have 4, 2 slow sticks, one I'm making into a bipe, a formosa that has been modded,(not complete yet) and then the ES that is being given a total kit bashing, it won't even look like a ES when done

my list to date of GWS planes I have had
Beaver
ES X 3
Formosa X2
Slowstick X2
C-130
ME-109
A-10 Warthog
Fokker F version

Hi Guys.
I purchased my first GWS plane last week, it's a Formosa II.
Started the build last weekend and maidened it on Monday. The build went very smooth, had to ask a few Qs and got the answer from the guys on RCG.
The landing gear needs beefing up and the foam cover for the battery compartment does not fit when my lipo is in place. No big deal.

As for flying, well for me she's a wonderful piece of kit. I must point out that my flying capabilities are very basic, level flight with the odd roll and loop.

Turnigy $25. Does the job. I hope it lasts, time will tell I will also exchange the stick mount for a box mount some time in the future.

The ESC will be mounted inside the cowl. I need to extend the cables that go to the lipo.
