Where do we get Thunder Tiger parts. I need bearings and possibly a piston. Are there any better bearings out there?

BOCA has bearings for most RC Engines. In several grades also. I have bought them for TT Pro 40.

Who needs shims

Be carefull, some areas do have rules against changing stock head/sleeve spacing.

Uhm...er...a buddy of mine. Yeah thats it, a buddy

If I am too concerned about it I can just put the head in the lathe and pull it down a few.

For 424, just leave the "sponsored by dremel" stickers off the nose

There are enough paranoid people out there that think racing is ruled by cheaters, the sad part is, its not normally the winners that cheat. Its those that chasing the winners.

Its ok to modify shims in the NCPL, but not everywhere.

If your running no head shim, you better make sure the plug is going to clear the piston, and you get the head bolts evenly torqued.

Woa there bro, I don't intend to cheat!
I am merely following the advice of the experienced pros in my hood on what to do (read what they do) to make an engine race ready. I am not looking to remove the shim altogeather rather for some thinner ones. I also understand about setting/checking piston hight vs plug and head. I got all them tools.

Were I intent on cheating I certainly would be going in a diffrent direction other than the regionally accepted methods of making an engine run better. Muffler fix (baffle in), break in proceedure, etc.

Dremels are for beginers, I am sponsored by Dynabrade and Gesswien!

When threads talk about modifying a stock motor, it perpetuates the thought that there are cheaters. I'm not calling anyone a cheater unless I have my $25 in hand to have there motor checked.

A few years ago at the nats, one competitor put up the cash to have the top 5 finishing motors tore down for inspection. We even had Henry Nelson and Dubb Jett present to do the inspecting.

Guess what? All motors were stock without modifications. There needs to be integrity in racing, or there will always be murmurs and whispers about this person or that, but for the most part I think things are pretty clean. I do not feel I am disadvantaged speed wise with stock equipment against the big boys, just wish I wasn't thumb disadvantaged

I'm getting an increased number of requests for TT Pro 40 parts locally. I have been carrying new in the box TT Pro 40 engines because no local hobby shops do. But I have not been carrying parts.

I have considered parting out TT Pro 40 engines since the pre-packaged parts are fairly expensive. I will certainly get "stuck" with some parts over time. But I could clearance them at some point.

If you are buying TT Pro 40 parts, do you care if they are simply pulled from NIB engines, especially if it saves you money?

I would probably only offer certain assemblies like:

bearing set
crankshaft
crankcase
carburetor
head
backplate
piston/rod/sleeve
piston/rod
sleeve
muffler
drive washer
front bearing
rear bearing

So now that we have established that I'm not cheating...
Where does one get some shims from?

Don, How many engines do you have in stock now? I think I want another one.

At the Hodges Hobbies 424 races in Americus GA, they run by SEMPRA rules. They do RPM checks on the line. It is up to you to make sure your engine won't tach over 16,500 RPM. The accepted method of pulling the peak RPM down, is to shim-up the head. Mac sells shims for this.
