I just ordered an Enya .45 BB series 6001 from Enya Direct.. It is U/C and has not one, but Two Piston rings . I think I will have to put this one in my will, I'm sure it will still be running long after I'm dead.

I was very tempted to buy one too but it's not long since I bought the new 60-IIIB. I've still got my old 6001 .45BB that I used back when I was into serious stunt and it was at least as good as the ST 46 that most of the others were using. My fuel was just 75/25 all castor and once a year or so I'd take out the piston, give it a good clean and put it back in again. After 4 or 5 years ( and I'd guess a couple of hundred hours) it wasn't starting first flick anymore so I gave it a new set of rings. Back to being a new engine again for a few dollars .

I wonder if the carby for my Enya .29 will fit this engine. I think it would make a good engine for a scale plane using my Ureely Three line handle. Down Unda, do you know if this engine has a bushed rod?

Yes, it's got a bushed rod but the 29 carb won't fit because the 29 has a 12mm bore for the carb while the 45 has only an 11mm bore.

Can someone suggest a model that is a good match for the .45-BB? My experience poops out at .35 size models - never flown anything bigger.

I hope Enya are doing really well with their control line engine sales - it is great to see them supporting the C/L community like this.

thanks,
Col

There's a guy here in Adelaide using one in a Nobler and it flies great, the engine's just loafing around with it but personally I'm not fond of the Nobler because they're a bit small at 500 sq inch. A Brodak Vector is getting closer to a decent size with almost 600 sq inch.

Thanks.

Just looked at the Brodak site. The Vector as currently kitted is only 536 square inches, and max of .40 recommended.

I'm thinking Profile Pathfinder looks like a nice match for the .45BB. Plus I like the simplicity of profiles and sidewinder mount.

cheers,

I bought my Enya 45-1 and it arrived the other day. It comes with two venturis, they appear to be 7mm and 8mm (I didn't want to take the fitted one out and mark the engine, so the quoted size is a guesstimate), the 7mm one being fitted. I have been bench running an old RC version of this engine that I bought from $bay a year or two ago. The run on the bench is very nice indeed, a nice stable four stroke.

I am quite curious to see how long these engines sell for considering how quickly the 29 and 35 sold out. And kudos to Enya for continuing with their support of C/Liners. From 09 up to 61, no one else seems to be doing that.

PAW seems to have a pretty complete line of C/L diesels up to .60 size.

I'm surprised the .45BB hasn't sold out, given how fast the .29, 35 and .35BB went.

I really hope they do well, particularly as I was one of the troublemakers who emailed Ken Enya agitating for a return of the .45 :-)

Well, my .45BB turned up a mere 4 days after ordering it. Sterling service from Enya as usual.

What a beautiful engine! It turns over as smooth as anything (distinctly smoother than my new .35-III which is a bit grabby at top of stroke). Amazing retention of compression for a ringed engine. I solemnly pledge that it shall never see glow fuel containing an oil other than Castor!

Can anyone comment on my proposal to build a Pathfinder for the .45BB? Good match? I love the look of that plane and hope the Enya .45 might be a good fit for it.

cheers,
Colin

That Pathfinder should be fine, it's got reasonable wing area. It seems to have a wire pushrod for the elevators with a guide half way along which may keep it from bending on up elevator but I'd suggest a carbon fibre pushrod. Go to an archery shop and have a look at some of their aluminium cored CF shafts, they're surprisingly cheap and work great. I'd also suggest using an RC clunk tank which can easily be set up as a Uniflow if you prefer. There's one brand called IM that I'm using on a profile model which is perfect because it's got a taper that's wider at the back when laid flat against a profile fus. This means that the last drops of fuel go to the outside rear edge so the clunk picks up everything.

Gads. If I knew what I was talking about I'd be dangerous.
