Hey 80stars,

Do you know anywhere or anyone I could get a 30% Extra 300 kit from? I like the way yours looks so far and I have a spare engine sitting around that I would like to get one.

Thanks,

Neil

Neil,

There was another poster on this thread who spoke of a kit he may for sale. Check one of the previous pages for his reference.

I think it's going to look cool.

Today I drilled the rudder and elevators with my 1/2" forstner bit in the drill press for the hard point dowels. I just need some final finish work for alignment to those parts and then I can cover those this week.

Thanks Albert,

I can't decide if I should try to polish the gear or paint them red. Do you have a tip on painting? I am guessing a good primer followed by color and clear.

Thanks Ward, I think polished will be the choice, BTW I will get back to you on the 50 offer soon. I just have a few other more important expenses to deal with my new job.

You have to "etch" prime it first. I use u-pol brand acid#8 etching primer on aluminium followed by regular primer then paint as usual. The etching primer has some kind of acid that lets it "etch" or attach to the aluminium, otherwise the regular primer would peel off over time.

I think painted landing gears looka little more "classy" but a little more work. As far as polished landing gears go they look awesome but scratch very easily but if you must have it polished find a local polishing shop as they usually charge about $35.00 which is well worth it as it can be very time consuming.

Doug,

I polished the gear on my 300. If you would like to see it let me know. Also, I have buffing wheels and compound that you can borrow.

Painting the gear sounds like more work than I want to do on this build, maybe on the next.

Marc, thank you for the offer, when I get to the point where I am ready to polish I may take you up on the offer. You will have to PM me as to where you live, I am guessing it is near.

I haven't been able to work on the 300 this month. I am busy learning how to fly an A320 and now need to do a repair to my Goldberg Extra after an engine out landing in a flower field. Easy fix, just reattach gear and some minor cosmetic damages.

The bulild hasn't died, my goal is to have it ready for our July town parade.

Slick,

I am going to go with the DA-50 so your drill guides would be great to use. I will finish this thing up next month while I am sitting reserve back in MSP.

Wish you could have been with me today, 70 degree xwind 18G29, landing at DC RWY 1 which is 6800' long with the Potomac on both ends. WHEW!
