I just wonder who the conquerer will be...

I know of this 1 organization called the US military which is broken into 5 pieces for lots of good reasons. But they all carry the same type of ID card at the end of the day.

There is also another saying .... command and conquer.

Don't have to really wonder where the conquer will be, the AMA has never let me down, have they let you down? Seems to me, at the very least, the AMA delivers it's promises. What more can you ask for?

Not a good analogy by any stretch of the imagination.

A better one would be the grown up table and the kiddy table at Thanksgiving dinner.

We should look at this program as a long term investment wherein the goal is to increase AMA membership. I think this is the intent of this program. Sort of like a retail store selling a lost leader so as to get you in the store and hope you buy more or at least get you in the store to look around and see if you like it.

And like every other corporation, even not for profit corporations, will have 2 years or more of bugs and kinks to clear out. Would be helpful if some of the current members of the "platinum" program would at least give 1% of the benefit of the doubt to the AMA to get the program up and running. I just so of think some members want the AMA to fail, it makes for more interesting conversation, at least on this forum.

I do agree with you about the intent... to increase AMA membership. There is another aspect tho. I know a few regular AMA members that will likely chose the parky ticket...and if that ticket is withdrawn in the future they are likely to be alienated and just disappear off the radar screen for good.

I really don’t believe the cost of membership in the AMA is/was a factor to those that wish to get involved with this organization or a club experience, but now that there is an option, many within the organization will likely take advantage of the decreased dues…at least for awhile.

What is being overlooked in my opinion is the fact that AMA has been benefiting from the Park Flyers all along. I have personally witnessed many become full AMA members without this ticket offer.

You are right, this is like a long time investment but not all long time investments pay out at a rate that is positive. Some would be better to sell off and I personally believe this is one of those.

Anyway…

Now with all this considered…even tho I think there is a better course of action…There isn’t much choice…support it or not…I will try to make it work when and where possible.

FWIW I really think AMA is behind the curve on this one and needs to eject now.

Even though there are those opposed to this program in principal, I think the programs' real impact is being over estimated. When the statistics come out a year from now, the results will be interesting to evaluate.
I look at it like just another item added to the menu, time will tell if it turns out to be a "McRibb sandwich" or not.

This is a good discussion. I have no idea what the result will be. I guess you have to see how many join at the Park rate in 2008 and then see how they renew in 2009 ( stay the same, upgrade to full AMA or not renew at all). My guess is AMA is hoping for a net increase in regular AMA membership.
You are right not all long term investment goes as planned. I only have to look at my 401k to see that

The growth incentive of the Sign 3 Fly Free Program didn't quite pan out, I wonder what makes anyone think the PPP will do much, if any good? The industry and AMA have a vested interest for growth, but how many clubs would like that kind of growth?

Not for or against the PPP, just giving it some practical thought.

A lot of us are waitingto see what the real effect on the standard membership numbers will be.
How many PPP will go up to standard AMA in 2009
How many $58 Open will drop down to PPP in 2009
How will we know these numbers?

I'm not opposed to trying something to lure the Parkies in,
I just feel this program is to divisive.
We are not luring them onto the AMA bus, we have made a sign at the back of the bus 'PPP Section'. We have decided a 10000rpm APC prop needs less insurance than Rubber FF, yet Turbines & Combat are just part of general flying insurance. We are giving a price break based on how quiet what you fly is, excluding rubber of course, without setting an actuall Db cap for howling gearboxes. We Incapable of 60mph without saying how we determine that. We say Should when we mean Must.

How many $58 electric fliers at clubs,
the ones that are part of the 93% of AMA that dont vote, that are here for the mandatory membership,
are going to choose to pay $58 instead of $29 to continue what they are doing now.

I'm sure the PPP ranks wills well in 09.
Some will claim it is a great thing that the ball is rolling & picking up steam.
Others will see that it is the first chance the $58 e-fliers had to dicth Open and renew at 1/2 price.

Seriously, the question in 09 we will ask fliers are:
Hey PPP Guy, would you like to do what you're doing now but pay $30 more a year?
Hey $58 E-Guy, would you like to do what you're doing now but pay $30 less a year?

What do we have to lure them into $58 membership if they got what they want (lots more actually) for just $29

I know of several countries where everyone used to have the same ID. Of course, they divided up along language lines and are now three countries instead of one.

KE, I agree that the definition of a Park Flyer for the purpose of this program is way too liberal. 60 mph and 2 pounds is ridiculous.

Maybe the hope is that PPP flyers will want to fly bigger models thus join the ranks of regular AMA. In any case the program is in place and I try to support it and help it reach its goals.

I think this is the risk the AMA was willing to take. They never failed in the platinum program, why would they fail in the gold? If you're even thinking about leaving the AMA this year, you now have at least a 50% better chance of staying. You also have 50% better chance of bringing someone who has never been an AMA member into the group. Having them at any level is a benefit to the AMA's overall mission.
