Looks like they are letting PPP's ticket holders to be welcome at exisisting clubs, if the club decides it's in their best interest.

They also included "incapable" of reaching speeds of greater then 60 mph, so that answers a few questions as well.

Anyhow, let the fun (wars) begin!

At our next club meeting I will recommend our club welcome the Parky ticket holders. I am pretty sure the suggestion will be well received. After some discussion, at the field, it seems some current open members may find the change cost effective for themselves. Unfortunately, most if not all were not aware of the option before last renewal cycle so they did not take advantage of the new plan and bank the difference. This package does make electric only flying more attractive to many of us.

Livewire,
if you paid the $58 for full Open Membership,
you can vote... the $29 PPPs cant.

Meaning you can vote into office someone that will run roughshot over the PPP guys & hike their fees & whatnot, while they cant vote against sticking it to the PPP guys. If that is what you want to do.

Without any arguement LCS, I think the AMA is banking on this theory. Why would they want to reduce any current AMA member? This is why I said that I thought it would be a good idea for the AMA to run with the program, if current members were against it, that's actually good news for the AMA. I think they are trying to get a new crowd, first an foremost.

Problem is only the choir is getting any message at all now but I guess that might change with an aggressive advertising campaign to the masses. The typical modeler is very independent but the park flyers are almost recluses...it will take a lot of effort/money to garner those outside the circle. Without exception, the Non-AMA true park flyers that I know have zero desire for organizational interaction but what the heck, if we throw them enough money they will likely trade their freedom. As you have taught us Freedom=money. One just has to be willing to make the trade.

Group,

I know we plan to welcome them to our club. We have always welcome them to our field to them in the past. We never want to get away from why we are here. We fly for the fun of it. Our membership is $25.00 per year for all members. I also understand that this AMA membership will not cover them in a sanction event. Is that correct? We would love to include all flyers to our events.

Thanks

Great post Crash!

I will suggest and I am sure our club will be amenable to cutting our club dues in half for parkies, so as to follow suit in tandem with AMA. Maybe you can suggest that to your club as well to get your club into the spirit of AMA support.

We have always welcomed those who fly parkflyers to our clubs.

However, I expect the parkfliers to support AMA at the same level as everyone else flying at an AMA clubs field.

Our club too will welcome the PFP members to the field, as long as their insurance program will be included in the AMA Landowners agreement as it has been stated, since that is stipulated in our lease agreement. Their due structure for the club will remain the same as the regular fliers. But that should not be a problem since all new members of our club get their first year of membership for free in order to let them evaluate our club and its members before committing to a membership, which is only $50 a year.
Why should they be discounted for the use of the same facility as those who currently use them? That is one premise I do not understand? I am not trying to start an argument, I just do not see the justification for that, maybe someone can correct me on that point.
Tommy

Crash, in the link posted in first post:

Park Flyer models will weigh two pounds or less and be incapable of reaching speeds greater than 60 mph. They must be electric or rubber powered, or of any similar quiet means of propulsion. Models should be remotely controlled or flown with a control line, remain within the pilot’s line of sight at all times, and always be flown safely by the operator.

Regular AMA Member: Flying at all AMA sanctioned contests

Park Flier Member: Can only fly at non-rule book sanctioned events.

As a long time CD, I read that at an AMA Sanctioned Class C Fly-In, an AMA PF can legally fly a model of 2# or less.

At my Fly-In, will I subject my regularly 2.5 mil. $$$ insured participants to the limited 500 thousand $$ coverage of the PF?
I haven't decided that yet. A 2 lb. model (DF jet?) in the eyes can be a damaging machine. Something to think about. I have a Fly-In coming up 3-29-08. We gotta' think about it.

But at a speed no greater than 60 mph is should be less damaging than one slinging steak knifes at 60 mph…I would guess.

I don't think $25.00 membership needs to be cut. I don't know where there is a club with a lower membership. I think a non AMA field near us is $30.00 and I think the 2 clubs north of us is somewhere around $70-$80 for membership.

We have 1 meeting a year to keep the same poor folks back in office and eat free pizzahut pizza. We have no issues at our club. Everything is taken care of by the Get er done concept. If you arrive at the field and you think it needs to be cut, get on the mower and get er done. That is the same with everything. New flyer, start the fire, ect ...

This will have to work with park flyers.
