John,

go starpig! Now, get some of those other projects done around there!! :P

Easy for you to say!! You are probably sitting around camp w/ a cold one or three.....!!

Where were you when I needed some awesome pics of the maiden??

Actually got back out to the field to fly her again last night!! (remember the feeling we all had after our first solo? I am ADDICTED all over again!!)

I should be taking a look at the Eagle this morning and see what all I need to get her airborne!! Tuesday night is foamy night at Ken's, so I should have the Mini Yak ( I know, not a foamy) and my 3D Foamy pro Giles done. That gives me 1 week to get the Park Jet done, get the trailer out of storage, de-winterized, cleaned, charged, filled, washed, get the kids to bowling three nights, engineer and install a secure system to haul three of my birds in the back of the truck (36% Edge, 30% Edge, and G.P. Christen Eagle), OH YEAH, let's not forget........gotta fly this 36% AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, TOO!!!

Man, life is tough!!!

regards,

Starpig

Astro,

I'm hoping that I can extract the video I shot while out at the field but I'm running into a few road blocks with my laptop not being fast enough to keep from dropping frames.
If I get it captured and processed I will send you a pm about it.

I had a good time out there and enjoyed watching yours and Kens plane flying. It is a sweet flying airplane.

Looking forward to seeing whatcha got!

Guys,

I got a couple questions on the 36% Edge.

I'm putting mine together now with a DA100 up front. Anyone got any pics of where they mounted their ignition at? It's not going on top of the engine box, that's for sure. Really don't like the idea of putting it underneath either.

I've never used these type of metal clevis's that screw on the control surface bolts before. I've always used the Dubro with the aluminum pins and couter pins before. They came assembled from the factory. Is it necessary to take the pivot bolt out and put some locktite on the threads, or are they force threaded so they won't vibrate out?

Thanks,

Frank,

I have been flying the prototype with a DA-100, and I mounted the ignition module on the left side of the motor box. My cowl does not have a cowl ring (yes, yours does looks better!), but it should fit.

For the aluminum clevis, it is always recommended to use thread lock on the screws.

Thanks islandflyer,

I'll see if I can get the cowl on past the ignition if I mount it on the left side of the engine box like yours. Cowl rings are nice, but they do make it harder to get cowls on and off.

I'll get some thread locker on those threads as well.

Frank,

I did mount the ign to the top of the motor box. From the shipping carton lining, I cut a piece of ply the same width as the ign and epoxied to the top of the motor box. I strapped the ign underneath. This gave me a nice even reach for the plug wires. You can cut a couple of holes in the side of the box for the leads. I just went over the top and back down.

Ken

Ken,

After 2 1/2 hrs this morning of temporarily mounting the ignition on the sides of the engine box and underneath it, that was the EXACT solution I came up with. I also dremeled a bit of the cowl ring off where the plugs are on the DA100 to make it easier to get the cowl on and off. It's still a Magician's trick though. You might want to add a picture of this in your manual.

Can you verify if it is necessary to put thread locker on the pivot bolts that are part of the gold colored control horns that thread onto the control surface bolts? I noticed the top portion of the horns are not threaded, but bare aluminum so as to stay snug on the bolt. Is the pivot bolt like this also.

One other thing, I put a 4/40 jamb nut on the titanium turn buckle end that threads into the brass control horn. I didn't care for the loose thread fit on that. I think over time, vibration will take it's toll on them.

Thanks,

Frank, I would highly recommend using locktite on those bolts, and any other metal-metal bolt connection in a gasser.

Flyfalcons,

I always use locktite on my gassers. It's just that I tried to loosen one and it didn't budge. That's why I wondered if they were manufactured in anyway that "locked" them in. I didn't want to screw the locking method up by taking one apart. A long time ago I used some Rocket City horns I believe, and they threaded into a nut. I couldn't keep those bolts in for anything. That's why I always use the Dubro's, those aren't going anywhere with the aluminum pin and cotter pin. I won't take a chance of flying it without knowing for sure one way or the other. Still a few days from that I'm afraid.

They are pretty stiff the first time you take them out, but after that they thread in and out pretty easily. Just be careful not to get any on the ball link.

Thanks, that explains it then. I'll go ahead and remove them and put the thread locker on. No second chances when it comes to those.
