Ken,
Am I supposed to use the long all thread Rod for the rudder horns or the short one. I'm guessing the long. Also what's the final verdict on cuting a hole in the fire wall?

Eric

The long one. I am going to cut mine but I guess the choice is up to you. Another reason I am going to cut it out is to make hooking up the throttle and choke a little easier.

Very nice job on the wood mount extensions Ken. Did you cut those yourself? Should provide a rock solid mount for your 85!

Grotesquebass,

Ahhh, the 30% Edge is still one of my favorites for sure. This 36% and the 43% are something else. Size does matter!
Both are very similar in performance as well. The 36% easier to haul out to the field everyday.

Ryan,

I wish I could cut those out that nice. I put DA John to work on those and he did a great job for me.

I'm surprised that you could not use a Laser Cutter to make those pieces quick and easy. I'm also surprised that DA is not making something like that to sell to their DA-85 customers since it is their recommendation of not using stand-offs. Due to the of aircraft on the market that can use the 85 it would be difficult to find a aircraft that would mount that engine directly to the firewall. The build is progressing nicely and the airplane looks good.

Anyword on the replacement for the Extra 330L

Hi John,

Actually those are laser cut and that’s what I am trying to get done interim because of the popularity of the 85. Remember this aircraft was mainly meant for the 100cc twins. The 85 turned out to be a very nice option to save money and weight , which almost never happens in RC. I don’t want to get too far off topic about the 85. There are a lot of happy people using this motor and many using for this Edge. This was my solution and I am pretty happy with the result. Regarding new planes, were always working. Thanks for the complements.

Ken

Hi Yakpilot,

Good to hear from you. I hope to have some video up soon. I've got to get a lot of other stuff done but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. You wont need a video if your finished this weekend. I hope this cold snap ends soon!

Hey Guys,

I've working on getting the canister installed for the 85 and I should get some pictures up soon. I did find an error in the header drop that I want to warn you all about. 50mm is the drop for the DA-85 if using a canister with the inlet in the center of the can. I believe Eric's is a rear exit with a center inlet so it's fine. The KS-95 front exit canister has the inlet on top thus shorting the drop to 25-30mm. So...long story short, I've had to overnight a new header from DA. I just assumed it was right and never paid the can any attention until I went to install it. Just a heads up for those planing on using this setup.

Mine is coming along, should be done in a week or two. My wings came damaged but PAU stepped up and got me another set out and had them in no time flat so am back at it again. Hope if flys as well as it looks. I like the fact that it actually looks like an edge, most others besides cardens do not.

Yes, I decided to just use stock mufflers on the DA to keep the weight down. No real noise concerns here. I will be using a Vess 27A for 3D flying. Dual A123 batts and 8711s all around. I called graphtech about the CF gear, he did not have them. So, I milled out the gear on top and saved 1.5oz. Not much but an ounce here and there adds up.

Ok then, grab the compact ones if you have not ordered them. Yes every little bit of weight saved does add up but I think you'll find it's comes in light when your finished built stock. Nothing wrong with taking more!
