does anyone have documentation on the Bell P-39 or P-63 that was possibly tested by the british with an arrester hook on either a real carrier or simulated carrier? I would be interested in knowing what book, magazine or publication has this information.

I think this is what you are looking for...it was a modified Airacobra made for the Navy and carrier ops. There was only 1 of them ever made and it was burried as landfill...what a shame.
