Default Tail Motor on CX & CX2 Xtreme Boom

The pager motors finally came in and I finished my tail rotor/motor. Here is a small breakdown on installing one if anyone is interested.

Parts:
1x Xtreme boom tail
1x 220-Ohm - ¼ watt resistor (radio shack)
1x Havok/Picco-Z tail rotor (you can find them on e-bay)
1x 4mm pager motor - I got mine for http://www.hobbyengineering.com/H1203.html, but I would NOT!! recommend them. They took 1 1/2 weeks just to start shipping it [:@], and they are also expensive [:@].
1ft. Wire

Steps:

1. Drill out your boom so that the motor has a tight fit.
2. Heat up your tail rotor and make sure its flat. You do not want pitch or angle in the blades; it will cause resistance from wind and put strain on the motor. (I used a butane lighter to heat it up and then bend them strait)
3. Figure out how to install the rotors to the motor (I cut a piece off of a Havoc/Picco-Z tail rotor, it made a perfect fit and glued right in)
4. Wire and solder up the pager motor (I used 30gage wire, but you can use wire from telephone or network cables)
5. Run the wire through the boom and solder a 220-Ohm resistor to the positive end. (A 220-Ohm resistor will bring your full throttled motors 8.4v’s down to 5.7v. It’s a safe voltage on the tiny motor and won’t drain too much power.)
6. Solder it up to either one of your main motors on you cx. (You can make it plug right into your battery or another channel on your receiver, but then you won’t be able to shut it off when you crash.)

Here are some picture to help and a short video of mine, Good luck and have fun.

DRUSSS!!!! Is it really . Well its an easy fix, all I have to do is switch the wires. Thanks for telling me.

Powerlinked- Flys great, Just like normal I guess, just looks cooler [8D].

e28m30- I can't record and fly at the same time I'll have my wife help me make one soon.

I have done this mod to my CX 2, and it won't fly for more than 30 secs with the stock battery,....and some major adjustment to the trim pot. It draws too much power away from the motor you solder it too,..... I am not an electronics expert, but surely there has to be away to make this work without drawing too much power away from the motor,... I am going to try a smaller resistor,..maybe a 100 or 50 Ohm

Thanks
JJ

you need to use a ¼ watt resistor.
It been a long long time maybe near a year now and my tail motor is still running strong with no signs of power drain.

I guess I can do this just for the looks right? I mean install the tail and motor without wiring it......

hi eat2muchrice! ive done this to my century lama 6 (i think its similar to colco). I used the spare main motor of the 735 3ch. its a bit bigger and a 330ohm 1/8 resistor.. it seems to consume a lot of battery power than the usual. is there something wrong with my setup?

btw, the tail rotor speed is not that fast. so is im not sure if its the setup or the battery thats causing it..

Its all about finding the right resistor. You don't want your tail fin spinning fast, just enough to look good. I'm using a 220-Ohm - ¼ watt resistor. Guess and check to find what fits perfect for your motor.

thanks! ill check if adding another resistor would do the trick or maybe just buy a smaller motor..[8D]
