I want to build an old delta pylon racer of the early 1960's. Found the plans and article about the Hustler. It is a .15 to .19 powered aircraft that eventially got kitted by Midwest. Now, the old plan had a hatch in center that used common pants zippers for holding/access. And a standrad (Green head) K&B .19 for power. A bit obsolete today.

I know that swapping these items out and installing modern radio gear is going to make the nose too light. Ruining the C.G.

Anyone have an idea as to just how much fudge can be put into the real versus intended C.G. on a delta racer?

Wm.

Is the one you plan to build approx 36"at the TE? If so I can help. This was designed in the early 60's, as you say, by Weldon Smith from Chicago. The last I heard he is still flying one on electric. I have one ,built from the original plans and fly it each year at our Flying Circus with a Nelson Q-500 motor on the front. Theres a C/G chalange for you, as this model was ment for a TD .15 back in the day . My father set a world speed record with on of these with a Macoy .60 on it in 1963 on reeds.
The C/G on this model is based on my plans. From the T/E at the hinge line measure forward 12.5" and approx 10.5 from the front of the nose. The first does not include the elv. If there is a former in front of the radio compartment I show the C/G at 1" in front of it. If you have the larger model then scale it up.
