Status: offline 		Does anyone worry about getting fuel on their hands? Methanol is somewhat toxic. I have always assumed that the little I get on my hands while fueling my engines is no cause for concern. Any doctors on the forum?

Status: offline 		I've never worried about it. The methanol evaporates pretty fast leaving the oily residue behind. Besides no body gets out alive anyway.

Status: offline 		What you get on your hands isn't really a problem but over a fairly long period it can get absorbed through the skin. What you get in your stomach from accidentally swallowing some is a problem because about a spoonful is enough to cause serious damage (blindness, kidney failure and so on) or kill you. First aid apparently is about 4 cups of milk or water then something to make you vomit while you're rushing off to the hospital.

Status: offline 		While it's tempting to think that exposure to glow fuel is harmless -- methanol is readily absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.

A small single exposure will likely be without consequences but repeated exposure over time may have cumulative damaging effects, particularly to your liver.

Over the years (I'm now 54 and been running engines since I was 9-10) I've almost bathed in the stuff (if you add up all the exposure I've had) and now I find that a recent blood test showed up some anomolies in my liver function -- uh-oh!

Just look at the MDS for methanol (the most toxic part of the fuel) and you might reconsider just how careful you are about getting this stuff on your hands.

There's no need to be paranoid -- just avoid exposure whenever you can.

Nearly all the alcohols and petroleums are toxic and can absorb through the skin and affects are cumulative over time

So avoid the bars & pub and drinking sessions.....

And swimming in these products

But I been washing my hand with the stuff for donkey years and I am only half crazy so I have not been doing it enough
