Hi guys ! The Des Moines Modelair's club is again, sponsoring this years SPADFEST in Bondurant, IA and I've cobbled together a website with most of the details. Last year we had 25 pilots attend, lots of spectators interested in what Spadding was all about, and even the local TV station stopped by and did a short segment. This year, we hope to have a few more pilots attend and we learned a lot on how to improve the event.

The event is geared towards general sport flying, meeting new friends who share the same interests in building SPADS, and some scheduled fun competition events. If you like B class combat or using you're airplane to knock down corplas bowling pins, this AMA sanctioned event might just be something you're looking for.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be tweaking the website to include additional information.

The SPADFEST website can be located at:

Nice post and site EB. Have marked this as a favorite. Looking forward to SF-08. Had a great time last year. I've been watching the SF-07 video. Good job on that too.

Hi eb:
Great looking website! As soon as riond finds out about employment time, we'll be registering. Had a super time last year. Your website should help if anyone is remotely interested in attending.
Falcon.

EB,

Excellent job on the website. I really enjoyed all the photos, video and posts on SF07, and looking forward to seeing all the action this year as well. Don't know if I'll ever get to attend one or not, but best of luck with SF08. Hope you guys have a huge turnout for the event.

Just love watching the videos. Keep up the great work !

Thanks for the kudos Eagle, I drive from Iowa to Florida all the time and know you're about one long hard drive away from SPADFEST in June ! We might pursuade RH to bring his spudgun and fire off some special sparkly things into the air. Come on by, we'll keep the light on for you or maybe we'll be out there flying at 1 am in the morning !

Oh I'll be tater armed and dangerous, have no worries there, Joe! I just hope Eli has been practicing with the one I gave him last year and will bring it back and show us his newly learned spud skills that is if his Momma didn't confiscate it after the neighbors complained about the tater hail

According to the map, it's about 17 hours and just over 1000 miles. At the price of fuel nowdays, I'd have to take out a loan just to get there. I really hate to miss out on all that fun, specially a tater deal. Man, I haven't see one of those in ages.

Somebody, PLEASE get some video of that. Oh man, what a hoot ! !

Why can't I just win the lottery? A mere 4-5 mil would be a plenty as I'm not real greedy.

Great looking website. Looks to be alot of fun. It would be a blast to road trip up there and bring my Spa3DT and mini Pizza Box. Looks to be about a 10 hr drive from my house here in Arkansas. Be a great reason to do some camping thats for sure. Pretty cool I did some digging on google maps and the field comes up beautifully. Check this link
SPADfest site
I am very seriously considering this!!

Yeah this would be my first SPAD fest as I am fairly new to Spading (1 1/2 years or so) so this would be a great reason to meet some of the others I have met only on the internet so far. I got a buddy who would probably come with me if I came. Is there any camping on site or just the one listed at the website?

TruBlu02,
Yes there is a campground very close to the flying site. Or you can camp for free at the flying field. Campground is better (Showers, firepits, coctails flowing like a river.........) Spadfest is a blast fun people, definatly one not to miss. Last year was my first and by the end we were like old friends. Yeah invite all your buddies, Last year I had a couple non-rc buddies stop by to check things out, it was 3- days before they left.
RH,
you might be closer to the truth about where the spud lancher truly is we will have to see if its still hidden out of moms sight.........

Well just talked to my wife and I am about 90% sure I will be there. Really just got to save up the money. Been a little tight since the new baby came along but I am looking forward to being there!

Hey, it was about 11 hours each way for me and worth every minute of drive and dollar of gas. rh has an even worse trip coming up from Denver.

I'll be staying at the field again. Baby wipe "showers" have served well enough in the field, I can handle a couple nights in civilization. Hopefully the club will have the grill all gassed up. It was nice not having to bring one last year.
Don't plan to sleep much, or have time for drinking. We flew nitro until dark and then the guys flew Electric slow fly's until the wee hours. Might have an electric or two myself this year.

Just to mention, no beer cans can be left in the club garbage. Think of that when you are packing.

See you boys in June.

So long as everyone leaves no evidence of the prior night's activities is OK by me.

Yeah me and my buddy are planning on going to the park to use the facilities there. I love camping so I am looking forward to this portion as much as the flying. Plus I have to have a campfire and I doubt the club wants me building a large fire on their site anyways.

On another note I noticed the campground has some water near it. Does anyone bring floatplanes? I got a spad on floats I would love to bring. Either way I am really looking forward to SPAD fest!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, water near for sure, several campsites were under water last year There was a nice lake in the corn field you could have float flown off, if you didn't mind the half mile slog through the mud

You can buy firewood right at the camp ground.
