GhostRider32 -> Strange A123 issue (1/14/2008 2:49:20 AM)

Hey all,

I made a 3S1P 2300 pack and for some reason, 1 cell is always about .5 volt higher than the others. How do I get them to balance even? The 0610i gets all 3 cells even at about 3.4v but then the cells spread to approx. 3.7, 3.4 and 3.4 or thereabouts. The cells always discharge to about 2.7, 2.2 and 2.2. Any ideas?

gr,

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are balance charging them, that is all you can really do. After having sold well over 500 packs, I have come across cells that start off at 1.5 volts and seen them as high as 3.8 right out of the pack. I would just say you have one REALLY healthy cell!

please balance charge your 3S liFe pack with balane charge such as 630B or 680B at www.chargery.com , if the cell voltage is the same after charging over, a few minutes late, the cell voltage beome defferent, please check carefully the cell impedance, if the cell impedance is very different, whether charge or discharge, the cell voltage will be diifferent. so before assembling the battery, it is best to assemble the cells with the same impedance, same voltage and same capacity.

You have 0610i which is a good balancing charger, You are not using balancer connection and balance mode?
You can do it at least once..
Good and recommended practice is to fully charge each cell separately when new pack is made, or long time stored pack is brought to life.

Yes, I sm using the balancer. I will dissassemble the pack to check impedance.
