I know this is a silly/ stupid idea that would probably involve lots of work but I thought it would be cool to make my toy snowmobile real fast. I took it apart just to see how it was inside and the motor was like a 1/18 scale motor size in a like 1/12 ish size snowmobile. The only kit I have ever built is the rc18b so I'm a begginer. I don't really plan to start putting in stuff until later on in the summer when I have extra money but I thought it would be good to get some thoughts. If anyone has done something like this you should post some pics or something. Don't hesitate to tell me its a stupid idea because I am doubtful myself but i just think it would be fun.

All you gotta do is rewind the stock motor.

The guys who run RC rock crawlers rewind their motors to turn SLOWER and give more torque.

You could do the same exact thing with your motor to make it faster. It will loose low end torque, but top speed should improve if you wind it right.

Do a google search for rccrawler. Go to the board and look at the forum for electronics. Dig into that forum and you will find stickies at the top of the page. go to the sticky about motors and ESC. There is an article in there about rewinding your motor for more speed or slower speed.

I recently bought the wire to rewind my glow starter motor. It's one of those old Hobbico starters with the planetary gear drive. Works okay, but when engines are cold or when you get up into the larger size--it just doesn't cut the mustard. I'm going to rewind it to turn a little slower, but hopefully it will improve my torque by 20% +/- I don't care about loosing speed. It's plenty fast. I want it to have more torque to crank over those larger engines.

You can do it. Just do some homework first. Rewinding the motor would be the simplest and cheapest thing you could do. It will cost you about $8 for wire and a couple hours of your time. It will probably work a lot better than tearing the sled apart and trying to mod a different/bigger motor or drive train into it.

Keep in mind, if you make it faster--battery life will suffer. It might last 15 minutes now and go 8mph. You could very well get it going 20mph, but I'll bet your battery life will drop to 8 minutes.
