MHester,
My original intention was to restrict this project to SPA-legal planes, but when doing my "research" I found that there are just too many fantastic, cool, great looking, famous, (insert your adjective here) classic pattern planes to limit it to SPA only. These pages are only three days old and I still have to add any descriptions I have. One of the tags I intend to add is to indicate SPA-Legal status. Is there a list of planes that qualify as BPA planes?
I appreciate your input and compliments, MHester.

Thanks!

CAsniffer

BPA is a pretty wide open rule set. Anything under 72" and 1.2 engine size. Anything goes. The actual intent and flavor is the retract/pipe type of pattern planes, so anything from the SPA cut off through the switch to 4 stroke era qualifies. Tipos, UFOs, Auroras, Atlantas, EU1s, etc. Basically all the cool planes that aren't SPA legal

So if it doesn't qualify for SPA, as long as the wing span is under 72", it qualifies as a BPA plane. Generally speaking all of the SPA planes do as well.

-Mike

And FWIW Mike's Desire qualifies as a BPA plane too, though it was early turn around era. Still a very slick, great flying airplane.

casniffer, the red/white/black plane on page 3 is something I designed and built in the last 2 or 3 years. It is not a classic plane although I certainly copied the classics. It was intended to be a speed/sport/aerobatic job just for fun. I did a build thread in the extreme speed forum:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2282786/mpage_1/key_bobber/tm.htm

About 580 sq in, Jett 90LX turning a 10x10 at 16K. Flies the ballistic maneuvers well at 150. I'm flattered you included the picture, but the plane is really just a tribute to the classic ballistic designs.

Bob, Love the plane! What do you call it? I think the "Bullet" would be a nice descriptive name for it.

casniffer, The "Challenger" (completed kit) on page one is mine, and is the same plane as the "Styrocraft Challenger ll" on page two (box photo). It's circa '74 and was designed by Sonny Micheals. There is a build thread of it at: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5969699/tm.htm

WEDJ,
Thanks for the correction on the Tiporare 750. The original filename had 750 in it, but I didn't think it was part of the plane's name.

Thanks

Hey all,
I added 10 images to page 3 of the image base. These images were submitted by email by several contributors.
Thanks to these pattern plane flyers! If you don't see the new pictures, press F5 to refresh the screen.
I have added a guestbook link to the pages to make it easier to drop me a note.

Hi all.
I added 16 more pictures to page 3 and put some descriptions on a dozen or so planes. I would appreciate it if you would submit any information about any of the planes; wingspan, length, wing area, weight, engine displacement, manufacturer.

Thanks
CAsniffer

There is a model on page 3 titled 'Atlas', which it most definitely isn't. Looks more like an SPA duck version of a 'Dirty Birdy'.

Add this into your database. Marty Moad's "El Toro". Torpedo .45 power, Bramco reed radio vintage 1961 design. I'm working on an AutoCad plan for this. I also included an ad from Glas Kraft for the Candy and Viper, vintage 1965.

Found one more. A Hunter by MK (I believe). It's a direct copy of the Top Flite Orion except for the wing fairings and turtledeck extended to the canopy.

Casniffer,

The red and blue Kaos with the white stars on the wing and stab is (was) my plane. I say was because I dumb thummed it into the ground early last year and it was a total loss except for the motor (thankfully). It was built by a friend of mine from the Tower kit and given to me and my brother covered it. This is the plane that started me down the "Classic Pattern" road. I was surprised (and flattered) that you included it. Keep up the good work on your database. You're efforts are to be commended!!

hrrcflyer,
Thanks for the compliment. Sorry to hear about your Kaos. I will include your RCU ID and the fact that it was a Tower kit in the description field along with RIP. :-) Our club's website has pictures of all the planes we have, past and present. I put RIP in the description of the goners so all will know.

Thanks!

CAsniffer

New classic planes on page three. At some point, I will organize and rearrage all the pictures. Problem is, I keep finding more and people are contributing them.
Good work. If someone has old magazines featuring pattern planes, I'm sure others like me would like to see them

Thanks
CAsniffer

The Dirty Birdy pictured in red white and blue livery is nit 8pounds as the caption states. It is a scratch built Dirty Birdy with plug in wings and weighed in at pounds 6 ounces dry. The photo was taken at the 06 Asheville NC SPA contest and I am the builder and just happen to be in the photo also. To my immediate right is another Dirty Birdy built by a fellow club member here in NE Tennessee. Vic Koenig
