LOOKIN' Good!

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/19/2008 5:14 AM)

Ron, you have to love the wind under the wings[;)][:D]

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/20/2008 2:06 AM)

Ron, how many batteries do you have? If I fly both baterries between4 and 5 then I get one more shot around 6-6:30. I flew the Fokker last night, not enough battery or not enough motor. It was seriously slow, I took it to about 25' and then landed it. I'm not a speed demon, but the way I have it set up I have no emergency power.

Tim

darticus -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/20/2008 4:07 AM)

I have 3. 460 and two 500 mah. Ron

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/20/2008 4:29 AM)

OK, non-standard batteries, as if that mattered. What cg are you using? This really is curiousity, I have a cg for flying out front and a cg for wide open flying.

Tim

darticus -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/20/2008 12:09 PM)

Just the normal from the instructions. Ron

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/20/2008 11:47 PM)

Ron, the instructios give 2 cg points 3 7/8 and 4 1/8.

Tim

darticus -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/20/2008 11:56 PM)

I stay between both, mainly 4 1/8 but with the 500mah battery which is lighter I move it forward a bit. The 500 is only 10C. The 460 is 15 C. rON

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/22/2008 4:13 AM)

Guys, I abused my bug yesterday. My first flight got screwy after about 1 minute and I landed the plane. The wind seemed to die down so I launched again[;)], this was a poor decision, once I got over 15' the wind was wierd. I tried to land but was thwarted. As I set up my approach, at about 12', the wind grabbed the plane and tried to carry it down. I added power and pulled up, but the plane did a pile drive into the road.

I fixed the damage, got the glue more than 50% cured and tried again. The flight was great, so I went to the second battery. Great flying and with a different attachment to the motor the prop seemed to be better attached. At the 8 minute mark I was going to land. I lost orientation on the plane and came in too fast. Then the cf for the LG failed.

I repaired it and flew a battery tonight

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/23/2008 4:20 AM)

I flew 4 batteries today. Lots of fun. Anyone else want to weigh in on their flights? I have to admit it's hard to be motivated when their is so little feedback.

Tim

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/28/2008 4:17 AM)

Hmmm, I think I stated it in my last post. I can't come post for every flight. I'm averaging 2.5 flights a day.

I did do something different today. I ran the bug up to serious altitude. I was playing in the 300-400' range and may have hit 500' in one run. I flew it over the park that is behind me normally. At altitude the plane is a different critter. If you bank and go into a dive it's no big deal. Recover, square up and fly away.

killingkyler -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/30/2008 3:15 PM)

tim, great work, ive been watching your thread here. im starting to have the need for something else to fly. the aces were fun, BUT

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/30/2008 5:04 PM)

Kyler, this plane is a blast. The only real pitfall is the need for a computer radio, which increases the upfront cost. But, once your flying you'll be happy to have a computer radio. I do fly mine in the same area that I was flying aces from, but I fly from the street rather than from my porch. I have ordered another battery and another charger, so 4 flights should be easy and 6 a possibilty.

Tim

darticus -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/30/2008 6:35 PM)

Don't forget a DX7 radio would be great but the DX6i is just as cool with a cool savings.

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/30/2008 8:39 PM)

I know Ron, likes spektrum Ron, but any computer radio will work. For example I use a Hitec Flash 5, And I'm watching the prices and considering a hitec eclipse.

COOL Tim!
Just thought I would mention it.

Hi

Does the LightFlite owner/designer Ron hang out here ?

Tim
South Africa

darticus -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/31/2008 3:20 PM)

Here is his email- info@lightflite.com

nashtm -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/31/2008 3:23 PM)

Thanks

I have a BUG and have corresponded with him but was just wondering if he participated in these discussions.

Tim

nashtm -> RE: LightFlite Bug (3/31/2008 3:46 PM)

Hi

Reposting here becuase this is the active thread

I bought the BUG because I thought it was the most durable foamy and because our current foamies were just to heavy and fast for our indoor venue.
When I flew it for the first time last night at our indoor venue I was blown away - by the second flight I was doing circuits at an angle of attack of at least 60 degrees! It also does this inverted with total ease. Dragging the rudder while inverted resulted in a few crashes but with NO damage to the BUG. Hovering is also very easy !
I (and the spectators) could not believe the high alpha !!!!

I kept it light like Ron suggested and with slow flying managed flight times in excess of 10 minutes on a 500 mAh 2 cell lipo.
A great plane with very innovative design features - the most indoor fun I have ever had period !!!

As well as being GREAT GREAT GREAT fun indoors - it is superb for learning to hover or fly inverted etc etc.

I am not affiliated to LightFlite in any way, just very very happy with my bug.

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (4/1/2008 1:27 AM)

Nash, I do not think Ron participates on this thread or the one on RCG. I like the way yours is done up. Have you thought of submitting your pic to LightFlite?

Guys, it's been really windy here for the last couple of days so I took the bug out for the first time since Friday, and Friday was a case of up in the air, the wind is way to high for this, and down. Today, so far has been OK, I flew it up and just worked on fairly normal flight. I seem to be trending towards less pure anarchy in the sky and more focused flying. The wind is still a bit stiff, a hung the plane several times in the wind motionless. That always amuses me.

I'm going to try something a touch different on my next flight. Someone recommended 3/8" surgical tubing, cut at 1/4", for a better propsaver. It was also recommended to me to have 2 propsavers on, if one band breaks, the prop is still attached. The fit is tighter than any other rubber band I have used. I'll tell you later how it flew.

Tim

OK, the surgical tube prop saver seems to be far superior. I only got one flight on it, but it seems better. More tomorrow. Tim

nashtm -> RE: LightFlite Bug (4/2/2008 9:24 AM)

Hi Tim

You know I actually think that my prop saver on my E-Flight 300 motor works too well.

After a few crashes/hard landings the motor pulled out of the magic mount which takes a lot of doing - I would have expected the prop to deflect or come off before the motor pulls out !

The eflight prop saver which comes with the 300 motor works very well and fits snuggly - it uses an O ring.

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (4/3/2008 12:00 AM)

Tim, Mine was loose enough that it wasn't seated at high throttle or hard manuever.

I have 3 flights with the new prop savers. The baro pressure has been lower than normal so I can't make an honest comparison.

Tim

FERNDALE AIR FORCE -> RE: LightFlite Bug (4/3/2008 3:32 AM)

I flew three batteries today, the doppler at high g manuevers is gone, so I like the surgical tube propsavers.

How is your bug flying Ron?

Does anyone else have a bug story?

Tim
