Only the front hub half was milled over the weekend. He still has to clean up the edges around the counterbores, then he'll be done and can move on to the rear hub half.

So far, it looks great!

Hey Juice, that is a pretty piece of work there. I see a lot of machine work and I have to admit, that is very good work. You are getting your monies worth.

speedaholic...

I'm sorry, I can't help you with a 1/8 scale 4-blade hub. The only way that can be achieved is to re-design the propeller to have a smaller root diameter. Without re-designing the propeller the smallest the 4-blade hub can be is what Soloprop makes, which is about 1/5 to 1/6 scale. Without re-designing the propeller the 3-blade hub can be shrunk down to 1/8 scale, which is what this project is all about.

Doug...

What you want is already being sold by Soloprop. Check out their website:
http://www.soloprops.com

This project is kind of a "clone" of the Soloprop 3-blade hub, but shrunk down to 1/8 scale. It's designed to use any of the Soloprop blades, which are CNC'd from wood (maple).

I do actually have restrictions on who I share my files with. I had to promise Soloprops that I would not share my design files, except for the CNC shops of course.

The rear hub half is finished.

You may notice that some of the threaded holes were drilled too far and just nick the outside surface. This was due to miscommunication between me and the CNC shop regarding the hole depth. He'll fix it on the production run.

Regardless, I'm very impressed with his work.

I forgot to mention what's happening next...

The two hub halves will be shipped to me later this week. I hope to receive them mid April. Once I get my hands on them, I'll test its fit against everything else in the prop assembly. I'll also do some testing on an RCV 90SP on a test stand. It's still a little too cold and wet up here in Canada, so I won't be able to fly it for a couple more weeks. But if everything fits and nothing flies off the test stand, I'll give the go-ahead to the CNC shop to complete the rest of your orders.

I'm reluctant to promise any dates, but I'm thinking you guys will be able to get your hands on the hubs sometime in May.
